Newgarden 2015 Indy 500 (Century 21)

After a long cold winter, spring has finally sprung here in Ohio! The one benefit of a whole lot of cold and a whole lot of snow was that I was able to knock a whole bunch of projects of my build list. For example, here is my build of Josef Newgarden's 2015 Century 21 Ride

This one started off as just a generic 2016 Autograph Car and (outside of the yellow stripes) was a fairly simple build. As much as I like the look of the CFH Racing/Ed Carpenter Racing liveries, the striping on these are a reaaaaaaaaaaal pain to apply. Between the positioning underneath the mirrors and the transition from the side of the nose to side pods, it is extremely challenging to get it to lay the way they should. I currently have two other Newgarden cars on my workbench with the same striping, so clearly I don't learn my lessons easily...

With this one, I ended up completely mangling the yellow stripes Gary at GWS sent me, so I ended up just masking and painting them. Beyond that, this was a smooth, straight forward build. Slight modifications to the tires using Tire decals from Michael at Indycals.  HUGE THANK YOU to Gary at GWS/Circle Track Decals for all the help and patience with me on this project. I am sure he dreads seeing my name in his inbox but is always a total pro to work with. Thanks Gary!

Very nice job. I have always been impressed with Josef since he burst on the scene at Long Beach (ironically) 7 years ago and tried to pass Dario on the outside in T1. It was cool to attend his first win so I have enjoyed rooting for him along the way. Nice recovery on the stripes, I cannot even tell there was ever an issue.
