Here's the PC-6 converted to the PC-7 Indycar. This has been done on the forum by quite a few other GREAT builders, so I didn't do a wip with it here. But I will post pics of the finished car as the Richmond car hasn't been posted here..( at least to my knowledge it hasn't) Thanks for looking in and commenting folks.... This was a very interesting build to say the least. Finding reference pics for this build proved to be a little challenging but as we know....that's part of the build. Also...I would like to Thank Gary from Circle Track Decals for the time and effort he put in to making the Decals for this very cool paint scheme. Thanks folks for stopping in and commenting... 1-1 at SPEED.... The build...... Rear shot showing Tim and His ROOKIE Stripes....

It is always fun to see what we come up with, what we like etc. Thank you, Gary, for doing this. Richmond was a lightening rod no matter where he went either in CART/USAC or NASCAR. He also was fast in whatever he drove. These pieces of history always provide refreshed memories. Remember Rutherford giving him a ride on the sidepod. Jim

Gary, I love to see your work so I am sad you did not post a WIP as this end result is really nice.
You did a great job on the conversion, too. Did you do the scratch built or did you have one of Lance's transkits?

Gary: Wowzer! It came out beautiful...the paint, the details; all fantastic!
Sometimes difficult to separate the driver from his problems...Richmond could drive!...big splash in Indycar and then kicked a** in Nascar...then, like a shooting star: gone...Randy Lanier, the Whittington brothers, John Paul Jr., Tim Richmond; all won major races but are remembered for their personal problems...Anybody else that you can think of?...
Again, an outstanding build! Tim

Hey Jim...thank you for the great compliment and stopping in and commenting. What a very talented driver he was for sure. Gary, I love to see your work so I am sad you did not post a WIP as this end result is really nice. You did a great job on the conversion, too. Did you do the scratch built or did you have one of Lance's transkits? Jordan Thanks Jordan....The reason I didn't do a WIP is...this conversion from PC6 to a PC7 was done (and very good I might add) by Dan, Calvin and a few others(sorry..I don't remember who else). So...I didn't want to run an OLD Horse into the ground..so to speak. I didn't use Lances trans kit as it was out of production. So...I used pics from the net(very few) and Dans' WIP for build reference and fabbed everything from sheet and rod. I ran into Calvins wip(in his photo bucket album) at the end of the build and it put a smile on my face. I did a few things different on my build but...the end result was still the same. Hey Tim...Thanks for the compliment!! Yea...I didn't know about TR until I saw him Haul'in butt in that Folgers #27. He was the only guy that would give Dale Earnhardt a hard time ( on Track) and laugh at it. He wasn't intimidated at ALL... Then...I went to a Model show at the WORLD OF SPEED MUSEUM in Wilsonville Oregon a few yrs back and man....I walked up to a really cool California orange DIRT/ Asphalt (He ran Both surfaces) Super modified and was really surprised to see it was Tims car. That's when I started looking into his racing career. I want to build that Super Modified in the near future. That will be a fun build. Here are a few pics of that car.... With the Wing attached... Without the wing... A pic I took at the Museum....

Nice, Gary! Will you have it at the Spring Show? My buddy Tom and I are coming over via Portland to see the Mario Andretti exhibit at the Museum of Speed. Hope to find some inspiration there.

Gary, I understand but please know that all builds are unique and I never get tired of seeing anything built.

...Anybody else that you can think of?... I've already commented on this build on another forum but it deserves all the praise it gets, from everywhere! Again, great job! In regard to Tim's question above, I can think of two, not quite national names but close: Gary Balough and Kenny Weld. Gary won tons of short track races, both modifieds and late models and worked with Kenny Weld to introduce sophisticated aerodynamics to short track modified racing (thanks a lot, guys!), and Kenny pioneered CNC programming to port heads, eliminating the tedious hand work involved previously. Both went to jail for drugs, Gary more than once I believe. For a look at their ground breaking modified, look up Syracuse 1980 Batmobile. Brian

this is absolutely fabulous! IMO this would be the other most popular car in the 1980 Indy 500 behind the Pennzoil Chaparral 2k
