So, I'm reading the 1992 Indy 500 page on Wikipedia because someone did a really nice job of fleshing out the page since I last visited. Despite the page losing my little contribution of trivia, I thought it was very well done, thorough, etc and then I stumbled upon this.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andretti_CurseYou know your luck is bad when there is a Wikipedia page on itJordan

I'm not about to bash the Andrettis' their records speak for themselves. Having said that, I've always felt they were a victim of the Andretti "mentality". It seemed their goal was to win every race by the largest margin possible. We used to have a pool for the 500 in which we paid out for first place, second place and first out of the race. The joke was who ever had Mario had two chances to win. Had Michael and Mario driven more like Mears and Unser Sr. they'd have more wins at Indy me thinks.

The real origin of the so-called Andretti curse dates back to the end of 1969, when Mario split less than amicably with his long time mentor, Clint Brawner. The business end of the story aside, Clint's wife, who had some Gypsy in her somewhere, literally uttered an old curse and told Mario he would never win at Indy again. You know the rest.

Wow, I just love hearing stuff like that. Sometimes the stories behind the scenes are better than the racing stories. Thanks for sharing that!!
