Hello everyone. I have been away from the board awhile since my last project. Been thru some health issues which brought with it some mental issues and a couple surgeries later and minus one prostate I have finally decided to get off (expletive deleted) and stop feeling sorry for myself and get back to some things in life that still do give me some pleasure and enjoyment.
Two days of 25 degrees below zero here in Chicago this week gave me some time to get started on my next project, Arie Luyendyk's 1997 Indy 500 winner in a 1:18 scale die cast conversion.
Here we go, this is what we're after.
Loran
Here is what I am starting with. The two donors are a Maisto IRL generic die cast from the era and an Action G-Force from a couple years later.
Take them apart and this is what you get.
These are the parts we are after.
Too begin the project first we cut off the unwanted road course wings from the undertray as well as the rear sidepod wings and engine cowl fin too. My next step is to fit the front wing. Some notching with a dremel tool on the center of the wing so it fits against the post on the undertray. Then I had to file both the body and undertray so that the wing is sandwiched between them. Slow process, be patient not to file too much. Then I trimmed and filed the wing end plates to match the real deal better.
Then we begin fitting the rear suspension/gearbox/rear end assembly from the G-Force to the Maisto body and undertray. I had to remove the front of the gearbox as well as some off the bottom. Then some more notching with the dremel tool. Then you have to trim the rear cowling to clear the suspension.

Now we are ready for the first full chassis mock up.
Next we'll begin to change the rear wing end plates.
