Another Lola

Back to the grind stone. i have been dealing with all sorts of fun with my eyes popping blood vesicles so i have been busy being a pirate for the last month or so..... since i was asked how i make my lola's here is an idea for you. I bought this mess off of ebay about two years ago as a 2003 Paul tracy top and a 2003 broken A. Fernandez plastic under trey that had the tip of it broken off and they tried to super glue it back on they looks like used a heat gun to melt it back on and that jus melted the front of the whole trey. i cut the front off to were the side had not melted and sanded the bottom to a nice smooth finish. i too the part i had to cut off and heated it up to make it pliable and glued to the diecast body. that left me with a 1/4 on and inch gap un the nose of the car were i had to cut it off as it could be saved. i used paint tape and made a pig mold to tape off the bottom part of the nose and used JB Weld to fill in the missing part. then my favorite squad putty!

Hate to say it but it looks ugly right now, but that is the beauty of this Forum. Taking ugly things and making them beautiful again. Works of individual art. Love to see your progress on this one. So far looks like you are doing the model some much needed justice. What car are you planning on making out of this?

I use self etching primer as i can see the white putty better when i go in for the finale detail and wet sand before white primer.

its hard to "imagine" this car will not be red

went to put the final layer of paint on the car and boom the self etching primer under the primer started to show veins..... never have i seen it before but needless to say the sander will be needed on this.

i have done so much to save this Lola to quit now would be a shame. i am sanding it more tonight and starting over. some parts have to be re done since the self etching chews plastic but no biggie.

It's a weird coincidence, I just bought some self etching primer from my local paint shop and the gal behind the counter told me to remember to apply another primer before applying to color. I've never had an issue but now I know that it could bite you in the end. Sorry this happened to you and i hope it can be saved!

2003 Action Lola. its a Paul Tracy upper 2003 Fernandez under tray 2001 Kenny Brack engine cover 1998 UT Reynard rear wing 3-D front wing with polystyrene end plates.

I tried something the other while on another business trip. i was looking at the action lola rear wing for 20 minutes and pulled out metal file and tried something. The Action lola rear wing is an Hanford #2 which was used on 1 mile ovals and smaller i wanted a Hanford #1 1.5 mile and bigger. i filed the end plates off and started on the back of it. i filled the rest in with squad and made the end plates of .040 polystyrene. we shall see how it turns out.

this is after the first sanding and re mud. the side pod extenders need to be filed down. and re worked. the side of the extenders were square are now rounded and smoothed.

eyeballing it. the action Lola is not 100% symmetrical so its bet to close an eye and go for it. i made masters of the pieces so they all fit just right. with all this (expletive deleted) river weather i have a back log of cars to paint.

so i had a change of heart. i am going to make the most of a bad situation and finish the second front wing my son broke. this means that the second lola will change directions again and will be in high"er" down force configuration.
