As those of us who follow social media no doubt have heard, the sad news is Robert Wickens is paralyzed from the waist down. He is determined to walk again, but it is clearly a long road ahead.
I was so impressed as he burst on the scene with a pole in his first Indycar race. I knew you had to be good to win in the DTM, but goodness, what a debut. And more that that was his easy going, almost "aw shucks" attitude. A typically low key Canadian, as opposed to his buddy Hinch. And it was no fluke. He was fast everywhere. Such a bright future.
I'm sure someone by now has given him Alex Zanardi's book. My hope and belief is that Wicky is far from done with motorsports.

Truly a very sad situation, yet another reminder that racing, in spite of all safety advances, is a dangerous sport. We watch drivers walk away from horrible crashes, and forget that driving very small cars in excess of 200 mph can result in tragic results.

Pretty devastating, but he seems to be in good spirits about it.

Devastating news, indeed! Wickens did such a great job of climbing that racing ladder to the top, and now it looks like there's another ladder to climb. I know we are all pulling for the guy, and I wish him the best in his recovery.
