Confession time: I have never built one of these kits...decided to try, but the Great Flood set me back...progress so far... This is the 1998 Laguna Seca Winner...everybody remembers Zanardi’s corkscrew pass on Herta in 1996, one of the great alltime moves...most forget that 2 years later, Herta beat Zanardi in a straight fight on the same track... More to come... Tim

Looks great, Tim. I really like your radiator exhaust exit work. I have some notes about the Laguna winner, if you want them. Keep it up, one of my favorites!!

Coming along nicely! I will admit I have never built one, and have 13 of them on the shelf. One of these days.

Looking forward to following along. And yeah, I do remember that insane pass in 1996. Still don't believe that Zanardi pulled it off.

That driver is grrrrrrreatttt!!! Wow! I totally agree, your driver looks very convincing.
I just picked up that kit at our club's annual swap meet this past Saturday. Going in the stash for the time I can get to building it, whenever that may be...
Great start on yours, Tim.

The build is coming along nicely, but what really impressed me in the photo is the work bench...it looks like mine! The phrase most often heard at my work bench is "Now where the Hell did (add part here) go? I just had it!"

Frank: You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet... A few teaser pics...if you want to do this car, the first thing you will need is a 55 gallon drum of Solvaset to get the kit decals to lay down... And the other side... Clear coat soon...comments, questions welcome! Thanks for looking! Tim

Just how much does a 55 gal drum of Solvaset cost?
For really tough conforming decals, especially most out of the Japan/China/Hong Kong market, I've found that Mr.Mark Setter and Mr. Mark Softer (that's how it's actually spelt), really gets the most difficult decals to lay down perfectly. But test 1st as this stuff is strong.

Except that my work shop door is behind me, opposite the bench, and my pile of "stuff I'll need soon", is on the left of the bench, we have pretty much the same work area (area=problem}. Those cartograph decals were on the thick side, but at least any bleed-through was minimal, and I've always used Solveset. I once ordered ten bottles because that was the minimum the hobby shop needed to place an order. I swear by it, but then, I swear a lot.

Love the cliffhanger position of that sidepod, near the markers and the small scisors!! Love the build too!

Tim, Your work bench looks like mine. Clutter everywhere! I love it when my bench is nice a clear and I start a new project. It just never stays that way very long!

This kit was my very first Indcar model I ever built....You are doing a nice job....I hope the decals don't give you too many issues as they are getting old and stubborn....

I’m throwing the checker... A challenge, but it came out ok... Herta only won 4 open Indycar races, but he has 2 Indy 500’s as an owner... These cars are so sleek and cool; back when there were $$$ in Indycar... I learned a lot and am gonna’ build another one of these great kits... Thanks for looking! Comments, questions welcome... Tim

Herta seemed to have no luck as a driver but he is making up for it as an owner!
Beautiful Shell Reynard! One of the nicer builds of this car that I have seen. I hope this one survives in the ol' museum a LONG time!!
Did you mod Herta's helmet?

Beautiful!
It looks like Herta is looking in his left mirror wondering where Zanardi went. Just before the corkscrew. :-)

I love it, Tim! Bryan came up through karts in Southern California around the same time I did, so I was always pulling for him as he climbed the ladder.
I haven't built one of these Reynards either, but looking at this makes me want to pull one off the shelf right now. Won't happen, though...
