I wished they'd show more races from the 70's I just don't understand why they show races that literally just happen a couple years ago....probably because it's easier than getting an old tape from the 70s converted to digital is painstaking. 🙄 I'm with you Calvin, I'd love to see the old stuff. The bigger question I have is how many races from the 70's even had recordings, and if they did, do they still exist? Between USAC's incompetence and the TV landscape of the era, I fear that whatever is out there is all there is. I remember a few years ago when IMS announced they were going to upload the 1972 500, only to backtrack when they discovered the master tape was incomplete/ruined. I have to assume a similar fate befell the 1976 race as I've never seen the any broadcast footage from that year. I've never seen the ABC footage from 1972 but I've seen the ABC footage many times of 1976.

I watched the most recent version of the 2012 500 recently and the last segment, the video gets all screwed up. It's rather embarrassing as a reflection of the series to be posting videos like that and not fixing them.
In regards to trimming old broadcasts: The 1987 Pocono race took over 3 hours to complete. NBC broadcast a 90 minute program (2 hours with commercials). So Indycar found a way to cut that down further and uploaded a video around 60 minutes in length. Why? They just generally seem to have a habit of cutting off the introductions as well.
For 1996 Las Vegas, my understanding is that the West coast saw several short updates between the end of the live broadcast window and the end of the race, but definitely not a normal broadcast. Maybe an extra 5-10 minutes of coverage.

What a great idea! Make the short broadcasts, EVEN SHORTER! 🎊🎉😂 🤦🤦🤦 The 1987 Pocono 500 was an interesting race too! I dont get it? Maybe because I'm just an old soul?

Skip the race and watch the green/white/checker finish. (short attention span and all that).

It gives me no pleasure to say this, motor racing is a niche sport. Prior to the deluge of new networks that the primary provider could move a delayed race to, the race was usually going to get the short end of the stick. I remember watching that Pocono race. You had to double check the TV Guide to make sure of the broadcast time, and you were just happy it was on. The drawback was NBC was more likely to tape-delay. At least you'd get Paul Page and not Sam Posey in 1987. Is there room for improvement, sure, but the sheer volume of Indycar racing available at the click of a mouse is amazing.
