Hey all, Just posting the results of another finished build before the school year starts and my progress slows down again. Here s Helio's 2014 Indy 500 ride, the first of the throwback Pennzoil schemes he has run the past few years. This very easily could have been Helio's 4th 500 winner had it not been for an exceptionally ballsy pass by Hunter-Reay into the third turn. The pass happened right in front of me that day and I couldn't believe he made it work, let alone that they both made it through the turn. Still one of the best passes I've ever seen. After seeing some others on this board post their builds of this car, I felt compelled to build one of my own. I admit I was a little intimidated by the long striping on this car, but with a slow process and a lot of holding my breath, I am pleased with how it came out. This was a nice easy build because Michael's decals already came with the striping already done for you. The base of the car was a uniform color, so it didn't require any real masking. Just strip, prime and spray and you're good to go. For the base, I used Rustoleum's John Deere Yellow. Using the 2016 Pennzoil car Greenlight produced as a color gauge, it is the one that looked to closest. All in all, one of the smoother builds I've done. Thanks to Michael at Indycals and Chris for the 3D printed wing. Not seen so often, you got the 3 inside the rear bumpers. You didn't get them too bright. ( atleast to me it looks a bit more realistic) It looks good. A touch not all have. Also good deal on the fuel buckeye. It adds to the car, as does the rear correct bumper. It looks like Chris Jerina has it set up nicely. They look spot on corerct on the inside. Nice looking car.
2014. One of those years that reminds you how you can be on top of the world- or walk away disappointed for a year and hope you get another shot. Take nothing from Ryan Hunter Reay. He made the pass and earned the win. As mentioned, heck of a pass. Capt America drove a heck of a race. Great race! You couldn't walk away cheated. It was as good a finish as you could want. ( i just was hoping for a new 4 timer).
Thanks for sharing. Its a good looking car.

As always, his decals are of excellent detail and quality. Those ones are tricky to get in there. It takes a lot of patience and a steady hand just to get it off the paper backing, let alone securing them into place. As for the fuel buckeye, I’ve found the best way to do those are to brush on a layer of flat black, then drop in a tiny bit of silver/aluminum paint. It is a small detail, but it really goes a long way in bringing a little more realism to the car. I’m not on the level of someone of Stu’s caliber, but I’m learning little tricks here and there to improve things
