Here's one for the "What Might Have Been" File. Fresh off a runner-up finish in the 1999 CART Standings, Franchitti was given the opportunity to test for the Jaguar F1 team through his personal connection to F1 Legend Jackie Stewart. Unfortunately for Franchitti (and fortunately for Indy fans), the deal didn't work out. In Franchitti's own words, the car was a total "S--tbox".
This was an interesting challenge having never taken one of these apart before. The car was originally a Hot Wheels Eddie Irvine Jaguar F1 car that was painted exactly as it was for Dario's test already (Minus a few sponsors I will add later). The top and bottom of the car are screwed together in the inside, behind the driver's seat. You can unscrew the bottom of the car, then gently lift the top away far enough to get a small screwdriver into the area behind the fuel doors. Once you unscrew those, the car comes apart very easily.
Using a donor Franchitti Figure from a Greenlight model I had laying around, I swapped out the figures, repainted the driver suit and covered up some Honda logos on the helmet and repainted the sponsor stripe green. Because of the difference in sizes between the Greenlight figure and the Hot Wheels figure, I had to glue the new one into the seat to keep it from rattling around. All in all, though, I like the way this one came out. A unique little piece to add to my Franchitti collection that has somewhat languished in recent years.
