Good for Helio, but it was a rather odd race. For the most part, both Target drivers dominated. As I have said before, there were so many cautions that the pit crews didn't get to give their team an advantage. They did however play a part in dropping some of the cars back. I can't recall a race where there were so many pit lane incidents. One guy spun entering his pit (Doornbos or was it Wilson?) , a big fire in Vitor's pit, guys getting nozzles stuck, wheel nuts getting stuck (Dario) and so on. I really like seeing the pit crews perform under green when the pressure is on. Other than that, I had a great time. That might also be the first time I sat in a section where everybody was singing Back Home Again In Indiana with Jim Nabors. I usually see that at the Kentucky Derby when the horses are brought out.

Helio is talented and seems to grab almost any advantage he can find. To win the 500 in your first attempt after passing his more experienced teammate - that was clutch. In 2002, he drove another great race and was in the right spot even if he wasn't the fastest car. In 2003, he stuck with the Dallara while Gil ran the G-Force and if it weren't for that lapped car that bogged down Helio and let Gil by - Helio very well might have been at 3 for 3 at that point. So, with him at 3 wins in his first 9 starts (faster to 3 wins than the 4x guys) he looks like might be the greatest Indy driver of this generation.... I don't know about that yet as only time will tell but you have to admire the results he has put up thus far in his career.

Jordan I really think if 2007 went the distance it would have been a race between Helio and Sam - they were hooked up and moving up when the rain came.

I agree Mike, Dario lucked out when it rained. He was going to have to stop and the Penske cars were good to go. We were directly across from the Penske pits and I thought the clutch was bad on the 3 car.as slow as the stops were. What I thought was strange was no green flag pit stops all day.

Seemed like an awful lot of wrecks this race. Felt bad for Vitor. I guess he's out for the rest of the season. Congrats to Helio. After going through this IRS harassment and coming out of it to win the 500, this man is a truly outstanding driver.
