Hi, one of the most fascinating sights in pre-war GP racing were the duels of the small and lightweight Bugatti 35B with only 2.3 litre displacement and the heavy, brute Mercedes SS/SSK/SSKL with 7 litre displacement. Someone called this vividly the fight between foil and battle-axe.
Usually Monogram supplies simple, inexpensive kits of mostly fair quality. This 1/24 (or 1/25?) kit of the 35B (not as stated 35 because of the supercharger), however, is a real gem that was released already in the seventies or eighties. Though the 35B was a pure racing car, some vehicles were fitted with fenders and lighting equipment and used as road cars. That is why the Monogram kit contains these parts, but of course I wanted to build a GP car in the French racing colour. Because of its outstanding quality building this kit is a real pleasure. Hard to believe that it is so old. Some details, however, should be added or replaced (f. e. the missing panel line between upper and lower half of the body with the typical screw securing wire, brake levers and cables, bonnet straps, exhaust pipes, the characteristic mirror, a realistic spare wheel carrier, and numerous interior details). IMO this kit is a must for every vintage GP car enthusiast. I suppose that I built my model in the nineties.

Just gorgeous! The screw securing wire down the sides is a really striking touch. I can only imagine how long it took to add that detail.

Jurgen, my friend;
Your work always amazes me, and this one is no different. Once again you set the standard, and a Monogram none the less WOW!
We must be brothers from another mother (except you got all the skills)...
GREAT WORK!
v/r,
Ben

IMO this kit is a must for every vintage GP car enthusiast. I agree - one of the most impressive Monogram kits I've ever built. Nice work on yours!

Thanks for the replies!
One of my next topics will show a pair of 1/20 Casadio/Revival Bugatti 35 (thus without supercharger), as usual one complete vehicle and one detailed chassis.

Oh my!! Another incredible build that only an Alien could create, and to think that it started off as a Monogram kit makes your build all that more special.
As I alluded to in your previous build, your photographic skills just add so much more to your presentation here. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
