I finished this morning the GT40 Mk.II Dan Gurney and Jerry Grant drove in the 1966 24 Hours of LeMans. The story of Ford’s triumph over Ferrari in the 1966 race is well-known and I won’t go into detail here, but Gurney and Grant figured as contenders early in the race. Against team orders, they dueled with the Ford of Ken Miles and Denny Hulme as a deluge of rain descended on the track. A blown head gasket kayoed Gurney and Grant’s effort in the 18th hour, prematurely ending a brilliant run. For Gurney, he’d redeem himself with a win in this race the next year with AJ Foyt. This car is the Fujimi kit with a mixture of Renaissance and kit decals, it’s painted Tamiya bright red, as I found it the best match for Ford signal flare red. I used Michael’s new tire decals and they look great and apply easily. They’re superb. The only thing I added was a dry brush of black to give the tires a slightly worn look. The kit went together good for the most part. Attaching the body to the chassis is a bit tricky, but I got it on there. I plan on doing quite a few Fujimi GT40s in the near future and I learned some valuable lessons to apply. I tried to paint the black gaskets for the side windows, but it didn’t turn out quite as well as I hoped. Not bad, but room for improvement. All things considered, this turned out satisfactory. I’m pleased with it and I thank you for looking. Just a note for Craig, this will be the last photo of the rail as is, we’re staining it later this month and it’ll be a nice cedar color.

Great looking GT40 redlegs. Sooo...the 'Ol board track is getting resurfaced. It might be a better race surface when done.

NICE! nice color, nice build, nice story, and even a nice decal combination. I'm sure the cedar stain will look nice when it is done too.
Seriously,... good work on this one.

Nice MKII. Love the simple red and white on this one. Great job representing this icon.

Very nicely done. I have this kit in my stash but was looking for the 67 Daytona kit when I bought it. I have a few other GT40's in progress. Great part of American racing history. I will have to remember your choice of colors, I was not sure about what color was used on the 1:1.

Nice build. Really nice build. As for colors: in a nod to cross-promotion, the Ford cars at Le Mans for 1966 were painted in Mustang hues (the Mustang was new then, and was their "sporty" car). Unfortunately, (in so many ways) the winning Ford was painted in the same National color of the New Zealand drivers, blunting any cross-promotion. So, if you're looking for a color match, look no further than the color charts for the 1966 Muustang. Your Signal Flare Red looks good to me!
