That is the smallest rear wing we have seen at Indy in decades. How well did Greenlight replicate the ground effects tunnels? Michael will have a busy year between this one and Calvin’s upcoming 1/25 version

With 1/18, 1/25, and 1/43 scale 2018 cars, all of our AOW community should be covered and happy!

The wicker bill looks massively oversized. I fear that thing will need to be grinded off and replaced.

The wicker bill looks massively oversized. I fear that thing will need to be grinded off and replaced. It seems too high toward the bottom of the nose compared to the real car. Also a bit thick.

I !@$%ing hate those center wickers Same! I'm probably going to grind that sucker off! Also the mirrors are gonna be fun remove. I had the same thought on the mirrors. As far as the center wicker, i kind'a came to the same conclusion. Looks too big! But i am not sure i want to grind it off...i sort'a thought it looked a bit big in pictures. If Chromehorn says the center wicker is too big, then i'm sure he is right.I'm just not sure how to make it smaller. Sandpaper? I have a car coming friday. Found a great price on ebay with no shipping. Sure.....l'll take free shipping. I have the yellow paint. Tamiya-ts-16.( brand new still in the plastic wrap )Im sure GwsTexas can handle the decals. I know Indycals has the zeus fasteners decals and will be doing the special tire decals. ( atleast he always does! ) Just one thought has slowed me down. I'm guessing it will be the livery Helio runs this year @ the 500. I guess i'll have to wait and see how the car is " decorated" for the 500. The Barber test car would most likely be different. And who is to say i am right? I THINK its a fair chance he runs the Pennzoil scheme. And i could be totally wrong and end up with a car that never ran. I wouldn't be where i am ( and doing and learning) without this place. No chance i would be attempting this. I would have just ' hoped they made it'. Not anymore. Watching. Learning. Seeing the quality of work and craftmanship, its like a mini christmas morning almost every time i come here. I dont know how else to express it. And, its always exceeding ANYTHING you could dream. Thank you.

I stripped the paint off the car and the wicker is thick and bulky. the paint came off pretty easy except on the engine cover. i will have to sand it off.

What did you use to strip the paint? Aircraft stripper or another chemical?
Thank's.

Helio should run Pennzoil colors at Indy because the pattern is Shell and Pennzoil alternate years. Since he ran the gold Shell Fuel Rewards car at the 2017 500 then it should follow that he’ll run Pennzoil yellow this year. I do like that retro Z7 Special scheme they mistakenly call the yellow submarine but that’s another discussion lol
Would be interesting to poll the group here for ideas on the fixing the wicker.
My thought is to grind it off and replace with thin sheet metal or plastic. A contour gauge would work really well for getting the shape or some patience making a patern by cutting up a sheet of cardboard would work, too. I can’t remember the wicker height off hand but someone here might or can get it soon....

Perhaps one of those moldable sanding blocks might knock it down to size.

Plastistrut has an array of "T" styrene sizes. Perhaps they have one that might do the job without much modification.

For those customizers with 3D printers for the job, I guess this is the part where you start to get them primed up for eventual orders that call for R/C configurations in 1/18. HAHA

A few more screws and it basically breaks down like the old car did. The BBS's are a nice change up.

A shame they still used the "old" front cowling shape, considering that there have been a few tweaks to that. Also still annoyed that the suspension doesn't sit where it should on the front cowl.

A shame they still used the "old" front cowling shape, considering that there have been a few tweaks to that. Also still annoyed that the suspension doesn't sit where it should on the front cowl. It saves them money. Seems like its most companies goal- make it AS CHEAPLY as possible. They have to pay the overrated ceo's massive contract. Cheapen up our product for MAXIMUM profit. This society loves and values money more than anything else. We do it to everything, oh sure, even our own health care is no different. As some one who got sick no fault of their own, the frustration and aggrivation the 'system' provides is all based on greed. After seeing the numbers( what is billed and what is actually paid)and hearing the "explanation" ( if you can actually call it that) its no wonder what so ever health care is irretrievably broken in this country. This 'save a buck' attitude has invaded everything. Your toys. Your clothes. Your food. And oh yessss....that important health care. Sorry for my little rant. I just find it infuriating that we will do ANYTHING to save a buck. Heck man, some cases its JUST fine to do that. But in EVERYTHING? Looking forward to getting the car tommorow and begin teardown.

Here is another veiw. Mirrors are simple. Some thumb pressure on the side and they come out ok. Exhaust is simple. Just not as combfortable with the front suspension yet. Back will likely not be removed. Paint job is perhaps the worst factory car i have ever seen. Has a flaw on the nose and is similar to the fernando car- thin in areas. Yeah, center wicker is too high and as mentioned, bulky. Car has some potential. Already have some idea's for the the floor. It should have been molded with the cf pattern in it, but thats likely a upgrade for next years cars. Front suspension has a pin that may have to be broken to remove the assembly.

Front suspension looks to be the same as its been on every Greenlight DW12 for the past 6 years.

I agree with everyone else, that Center Wicker waaay to big. If you keep it, it seems like it would be a pain to lay decals over properly. Kind of surprising to see the small plastic wicker in front of the cockpit return. I always hated dealing with those because I could never get them out without destroying them. Most often, I would put some bondo over it and pretend the hole didn't exist.
It is also a surprise to see the front wing is now a part of the rest of the nose. I suppose that might be easier to deal with than a separate piece, depending on what car you are doing. I'm excited to see what cars Greenlight ends up producing. I've seen lots of pre-order options, but those aren't always the most dependable. If they produce all of them, this will be a very expensive year. So far, I've seen the following:
#1 Newgarden (Verizon) #4 Leist (ABC Supply) {No Official Rendering Yet} #5 Hinchcliffe (Arrow) #6 Wickens (Lucas Oil) {No Official Rendering Yet} #9 Dixon (PNC Bank) #10 Jones (NTT Data) {No Official Rendering Yet} #12 Power (Verizon) #13 Patrick (GoDaddy) #14 Kanaan (ABC Supply) {No Official Rendering Yet} #15 Rahal (Unknown Sponsorship) {No Official Rendering Yet} #16 Sato (Unknown Sponsorship) {No Official Rendering Yet}--->TOMotorsports has a pre-oder for #16, even though he is in the 30 car #17 Daly (U.S. Air Force) #22 Pagenaud (Menards) {No Official Rendering Yet} #27 Rossi (Unknown Sponsorship...probably NAPA) {No Official Rendering Yet} #26 Veach (One Thousand One) #28 Hunter-Reay (DHL) #59 Chilton (Gallagher) #63 Mann (Donate Life) #98 Andretti (U.S. Concrete) {No Official Rendering Yet}
Surprising to see Kimball missing from the list, as are other options for Newgarden that used to back Castroneves (Hitachi, AAA Insurance, etc), unless those deals went with Helio when he left. No word on other Coyne, Carpenter, Juncos, or Harding cars but I don't imagine those are likely. 19 is a pretty decent selection though...

Apparently Toronto motorsports is doing a special Hinch figurine car. Only 300. 200 available to public. Driver apparently will sit on the side of the cockpit . Has a canadian flag and will have red gloves ( art work on site shows different gloves) Nice to see that list. I havent seen what GL was for sure doing. Seems like they always have a car or two that isn't advertised.

Apparently, according to this video, the center wicker is toast! They had decal issues with it. ( real shocker) Only the autograph car and the 500 event car will have it. Another video has the Dixon car and same, no center wicker.
