I completed this Easter afternoon my replica of the Porsche 917 in which Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood won the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche came up short against the Ford GT-40s of John Wyer in the 1969 race. They determined to do all they could to win in in 1970. Porsche recruited Wyer to be their main factory effort. Porsche Salzburg also fielded factory cars, including the machine of Herrmann and Attwood. Rain and Ferrari 512s proved their main adversaries in the 1970 race, a deluge inundated the track, but at the end of 24 hours, this Porsche came out on top. This is the Fujimi kit with Michael’s tremendous decals. If you have this kit, do yourself a favor and buy his decals, they’re beautifully done and look so much better than the kit decals. It’s painted Gunze Madder Red and is otherwise box stock. This kit was generally an easy build, there were some inner fender issues, but I rectified them without too much difficulty. Thank you for looking!

Great build of an iconic Porsche. Your clean modeling and wonderful,. paint work really set it off. I agree with your remark concerning Michaels decals; I am a frequent user.
GOOG JOB!!

Very nice! Are all of the stripes decals?

Thank you for the kind words, the stripes are indeed decals and they went on really well! They’re daunting, but not bad at all once you get into working on them.

Great job 61 RL. Your paint looks flawless. Did you clear coat it? The 917 is one of my favorite Porsches.

Nice work, Jerry. I'm glad to see that the rail is still with us.

I know Gulf 917s are more popular but this is my favorite 917 of all time. I at one point sim-raced a Lola T70 Coupe that I painted like this car because I liked the scheme so much.
The model sits well, the paint looks great, and the details set if off. Even the decals on the louvers look like they set down well. Just a really sharp looking model. Looks like it going 240 down the Mulsanne rail! What a beast.
