Just set up my DVR for Sunday’s race on ABC. Couldn’t find any practice or qualifying on the Disney/ESPN/ABC family of channels. I for one hope this is the last year for any Indycar races including the 500 on ABC. Here’s to all races being broadcast on NBC/NBCSN next season.

Robert on Pole....
Bin watching this kid up close from when he arrived in Europe.
He can peddle. Boy can he peddle. Best of the Canadian A1 GP runners. Runner up in F2 and GP3 championships. Formula Renault 3.5 champ and oh so close to an F1 drive until someone else's money got in the way. Always a contender in the DTM. Saw his first win at the Nurburgring and then another at the Norisring, both in mixed weather conditions.
I know I go on about Danny Sullivan but Robert's career reminds me of his way back when. Got a bit to learn about the ovals but before long he will be in a top team and doing the business. Watch this one. Give him parity in kit or conditions and he will be there on the road courses. He has got to strike early in the year before the development race becomes a determining factor.....
Just signed up to the ESPN channel over here in the UK to watch the year properly coz of him.

Bad start for the coverage in the UK. Missed the restart and King passing Wickens.
Anyone know a site where live comments are thrown in by those watching? I thought you guys did it on here sometimes.
Blimey. Wickens in front again and its mental behind. Brilliant!
Will sit quietly now. Enjoy everybody.

Forum rules preclude me from expressing myself honestly.
I am the proud owner of a small IKEA table that is now only fit for being thrown in the trash......

I think you should leave it at 'modern day racing'. I like the way the new car races though.

I really don't understand why anyone should be surprised. Street course races are quite often a crashfest. Long Beach will likely be the same.

The running into another car to try and make a pass should be left to the Taxi Cab excuse for racing on the other side of Florida. It's to easy to run over or get under a wheel in open wheel racing. Getting someone injured or killed is not the way to win a race.

LOL I was just happy to see the new car race so I could hold my 1/25 master up to the TV to compare. AND thank goodness there is no more bumpers! It's really hard to cast those in resin.

I LOVED Bourdais’ paint scheme...several really cool cars: Dixon, Wickens (metallic maroon?), and whoever was in the light green and gold...if you have ever seen a street race live, it looks like every corner is gonna’ be a wreck...the claustrophobia from the driver’s seat is Very Real... Tim

Meant to get some thoughts in sooner. The new car is nice. Its going to be a fun car to mod. Indycar got some new fans this weekend as i was trying to help a friend thats new to motorsports and he loved it! Saw IMS president Doug Boles on the walk in race day and we had a conversation about the blue envelope that came the day before. Florida chamber of commerce weather. It was nice. Perfect breeze ( or so i thought) race day. Always Indy mentioned some liveries. The #10 Jones Blue chrome was VERY shiny in the Fla sun. Bourdais car in person is striking. Loved the new position display and also includes the cars current gear selection is displayed. Nice feature. Wickens put on a show and left me thinking he might get it done this year. They said the crowd was record. I dont buy it. Been too many times. But if they say so..... Also, the IRL has always been fan freindly. Not as much this year. Personal experience this year from past ones. Autograph session was moved to friday at 2:15. It was always on quals day. I did get 1 of 4 cars taken to be signed ( follow up in Taku -son post) and was questioned as i took a box into the pit lane, not a big box. First time ever.
Over all i think the new car races well! Sure sells the steak with some sizzle and i wooed in some new fans. Usually i get my cars signed,( just 500 winners) but this year i really wanted to cater to the new fans. People first. I think this year could hold some growth. I am optimistic for the future and i am also looking forward to the diecast show in INDY. Is it May yet?
