Gary Doucette's 1951 Belanger

I talked to Gary this afternoon and his latest kit, the 1951 Indy winner, the Belanger Spl. driven by Lee Wallard, should be out within the next two weeks. This is a new kit and eventually will have versions of the car as it was at Indy in 1952 and 1953. Next up after the Belanger is a Ford 4-cam dirt car like the ones driven by Al Unser and Mario Andretti. While I find Gary's kits sometimes less precise than some others, I like having to do preparation and getting things to fit right. Gary has produced some kits of cars I thought I would never see from the pre-WWII era. Please give his offerings a good look. They are reasonably priced and he will need our support to keep going. I have a good half dozen of his kits and they are exactly as Jim describes them. Not "shake the box" but definitely buildable. I for one am quite excited about the dirt car, I saw them race quite a few times in the 1970's, impressive machines for sure.

The first Ford 4 cam dirt car will not be the Unser/Andretti cars. It will be the Meskowski/Foyt ride. I think the only thing remaining to be done on the Foyt car is the grill. The Johnny Lightning and Viceroy cars will follow. The Unser/Andretti cars Grant King cars and are quite different from the Meskowski. They have a different overall shape, are narrower and have different tails and noses. I am just about done with the Grant King body and will be sending it to Gary next week--hopefully.  Photos are of the Foyt car which I sent to Gary about a month ago.  I will post a photo of the Unser car before I send it off.

Sorry about the incorrect information about the dirt cars and am glad that Kip could straighten everything out. Glad to see this happening.

I want that car! The style/type fits in beautifully with the "periods of indycars" display I'm working on. Thanks for doing this one.
