Last night I finished this replica of Johnnie Parsons’ 1950 Indianapolis 500-winning Kurtis. For the first time in 24 years, rain precluded the race from going the distance. A downpour stopped the race at 345 miles. Johnnie Parsons, the previous season’s 500 runner-up, held the lead as starter Seth Klein displayed the red and checkered flags. Parsons started in the middle of the second row and led three times for a total of 115 of 138 laps. He was a mainstay of Championship racing in the late 40s through the 50s. He won the 1949 AAA Championship and eleven Championship races overall. His son, Johnny Parsons raced for many years in USAC, CART, and the IRL and, like his father, is a mainstay at IMS. This is Gary Doucette’s latest kit, it went together with no problems, except the windscreen, but that’s more operator error than issue with the kit. I painted the car Duplicolor Daytona Yellow, the wheels Tamiya red, and Molotow Chrome on the A-frames, fuel injectors, and grille. Thank you for looking!

Very nice! How tough was it to assemble the wire wheels?

Thank you! The wheels weren’t too difficult to put together, you just have to be careful and take your time.
My strategy involves attaching the hub to the rear wires and then drilling the hole in the hub that slots into the axle. After I complete that, I then paint that portion of the wheel.
While the paint dries on the back of the wheel, I then follow the directions for the front of the wheel. I use the tire to gauge how much I need to bend the spokes. After I get the front of the wheel how I want it, I then apply paint.
I hope that answers your questions regarding the wheels!

Really nice job, Jerry. I am glad you went first with this kit. At least now, I am willing to try it. The front suspension looks really good. Thanks for sharing. Jim

The yellow and the nice silver decals go well together with the color punches of red, brown, and chrome. It just all works and makes for a very pleasing model. Very nice, Jerry!

Man Jerry...I really didn't care for nose of that car(not the Kit...). But seeing how Beautiful yours looks...I might change my mind. I'm really looking forward to seeing the 51 winner. That's one of my favorite body styles. I just might get this one too...Gary D. will fall over when I tell him that...LOL
