From the pictures I've found, A.J. Foyt appears to be driving a Kuzma in the 1958 Indy 500. Also his shark nose 1959 car was a Kuzma, correct? (EDIT: see my reply, I was wrong on that one, sorry!) Has there ever been a 1/25th scale Kuzma Indy car kit done? If not, has anyone ever bashed another kit into either of these two cars? If so, details, please. BTW: Smokey had a very pretty blk/gold version of the shark nose car, #31 IIRC. ;D Thanks! Mongo

I feel pretty dumb. I got out my book on Frank Kurtis's cars (new book, it isn't totally committed to memory yet1 ;D ) and see that the '59 cars with the *shark* nose are his, not a Kuzma............. but, I still would like to know about the '58 Kuzma roadster offerings. (??)
It is unusual for no one to have any input on a question around here! LOL!!

The Kurtis you mentioned is a kk500h, only one was built, qualified in 58 with Johnny Thomson and 59 with Duane Carter. Jud Larson drove what looked like a similar car in 59 but was a different car. Once in awhile a very bad slot car body of this car can be found, it is not scaled properly and is poorly slush cast and warped (at least the one I have is). The 59 Foyt car was a laydown Kuzma, the 58 an upright, as for a 58 Kuzma model , one does not exist, yet, I do know of a Kuzma in the works but do not know if it will be offered as a kit or not ( it's not by Bill or myself ). As for converting an existing model , I would guess the Monogram Kurtis could be a starting point, but I would prefer a piece of bass wood , epoxy putty and one of Bob's Kuzma drawings. Lance

The more I think about it I seem to remember a photo of Foyt in a bowes kurtis that looked like the kk500h when they took possession of the car(he drove a bowes kurtis in 60). The qual. shot from 60 shows a different nose and possibly tail on the car than what I remember in the earlier photo of the car . I can only find the 60 Foyt car listed as a kurtis with no mention of a model no. Of course I can not remember where I saw the first photo. Lance

Thanks, Lance. The Kurtis book I got has a few good pictures of all his various cars, but only partial shots, sometimes. I have spent many years carving balsa for airplanes (I build for paying customers in CLPA) so I am seriously thinking of getting Bob's drawings, if I can, and going after it.
I was just wondering if there is, or has been, a good model of one. Since I have only seriously been doing Indy models since I joined here (but I have been a big fan since the '50s!), I am WAY BEHIND on the learning curve. And at my age, there isn't enough ears left to do th eresearch I have done in other areas. So, I appreciate all the help. ;D
Thanks, again! Bill

I have Bob C.'s drawings for the Kuzma Indy cars. The drawing has 4 different version's details, but I am having trouble figuring out which cars that "A", "B", "C", and "D" are. My main concern is building A.J.'s rookie car, so any help is appreciated. So far, Russ cannot help (although he has given me more help than I can ever repay!), so anyone else? ;D
Thanks! Mongo

OK, about 6 weeks later.......... I have Bob C.'s drawings of the Kuzma cars. There are four *detail* drawings of headrests/grills. I am still trying to ascertain the different cars. Anyone willing to help me here?
I have changed mouthwash and deodorant, taken a bath and put on clean clothes.........
