Nigel's 1993 Indy 500 ride

This is one i have had in and out of the box for a few false starts. With the Xmas holidays i thought lets have a crack at it. I always liked these kits and it was a shame they were done as a snap kit, i think if they had of been a glue kit there would have been more traction and maybe we would of had more than the two Lola's?

So this is where i go to last time, sanded the seamlines and painting went well till i had done the black and noticed my white had a small mark in it, i sanded this down and then thought to help the declas i will just shoot a little TS13 onto the body, well i then ended up with the lovely melted paint finish, and this was with a dust coat.



So then a bath in the 99% alcohol and prime again and this is what i am back to.


Paint went on nicely this time..



So decals are my next item.

Nice work, Shayne. Nige certainly impressed on that day with the newly narrowed track, so that's a great Lola to build!

Thank you gents, appreciate the kind words. Managed to get some decals done between being Mr Mum and keeping order in the house. It is nice when you get the kids to bed and there is that quiet time just for you....lol
Decals are Museum Collection which i got with the kit, i have never used them before and found them very easy to work with and i do like that there was basically no carrier film so you do not have to trim tight around the decals.

I so remember. The phone would ring. " He is gonna get those red + white cars.... You hear me"? .. the voice would claim on the other end.
As the season went on, those calls got almost painful.
The young gun wasn't going to derail the Lion and Emmo couldn't run him down either.
The pain ended after the season & i had to buy dinner.

Today i have even more respect for Nigel. He ran wheel to wheel with Senna and Prost and always brought it. His adaption to ovals was fantastic. I didn't think he would adapt as quickly as he did in one season.

Thank you for sharing. The car is looking great! Seeing these cars built is always fun.  No matter what side of the woodshed you were on.

Thank you racermagic, cool story. I was like that with a friend but we were both going for Nigel....

I have had a chance to finally finish up the decals and now i am working on the suspension arms and engine.

Really really great work, those decals look awesome. I still remember getting up at 3am to watch the 1993 Indy 500 while I was still living in NZ. And amazed how well Nigel did that day. Hard to believe it was almost 25 years ago .

Well i went ahead and used the Mr Super Clear UV Cut after seeing Jeff's Leyton House first hand. I have to say great stuff. I used it from the can as i am over my airbrush at present after a couple of mishaps, i did as per what everyone is saying a couple of mist coats and building up to heavy at the end, i think i took around 4 hours till i was done as i left this for 45 minutes at times before the next go, we are also having some sensational HOT weather right now which is happy days for painting.
I will now decide if i will rub this back or just leave it and finish it up and move onto the next one.

Being true to myself i can never rush a build....hahaha But i would like to say i have finally put the finishes to this one. Decals were great to use and would use them again with no problems at all. Basic build with everything closed up, just added some belts and of course the speedway version rather then the road course.

Love the cock pit I.D. decals. Steering wheel and belts are nice. Also like the 2 front antenna's.
The pop off valve top is well detailed.

Shane...what kit did you do this outstanding build from? You mentioned that is was a snap kit but didn't say who made it. I like Nigel Mansel also and wouldn't mind doing this car.

the kit is Tamiya's 1993 T93 Lola Ford 1/20th scale kit, released in super speedway configuration with Driver Raul Boesel & in Road course configuration with Nigel Mansell / Mario Andretti.
