I'm impressed with the way you've attacked this. I'd say you've done a great job so far. I'm sure it'll look great.

Beautiful job what a transformation. How did you square up the cockpit cut? Again fantastic transformation.

Hi Joe, I had a lot of solid resin to remove at the front of the cockpit opening. I ran a hacksaw blade along the inside and sawed forward, then the same on the other side. I then used a chisel to split the unneeded material away. You can see I’m preparing to shape that portion of the opening.

I used the same technique to remove material in the radiator channels in the sidepods.

Comparing to a near contemporary shows the overall proportions are not too far off. Getting ready to paint.

So dare I ask what blue to use for the pc10? TS color?

TS 10, 44, 51, 93, or what?

Absent any suggestions to the contrary, I went with TS 93 Some touch up, then mechanical bits, then decals.

Sorry I didn’t get a suggestion in. All I could say was to think the blue would be the same as the PC6 and PC8B Gould cars. But, to me the key would be to match the blue of the decals. How close is the TS93 to the decals?

Hi Paul, It was always going to be iffy matching to these decals, which are to me an unknown quantity, compared to Michaels for instance. I don’t know how opaque they are over white. Also the luster will be different, skewing a comparison. It seems close, but won’t know until the application. Close defines this project. Thanks, Dan

Just had to find out 🤔🤔 Very not opaque! More of a tint. The film is very thin and easy to wrinkle. The blue is not as close as I’d hoped. The plan was/is to paint the front wing with the blue so it matches then add spare decals for the Gould and red stripes. I’m going to finish the mechanicals and the rest of the markings and see what I’ve got. This may become a five-foot model. From that far away, it might look OK.

Jmho, i dunno if i would be a harsh as critic. You started with a rough model and have basically rebuilt it. I can imagine the thin film being a challenge. Not long ago i learned that can be a challenge in itself, from a Pippa car. Again, jmho, its come along way and i feel like i have learned a little from it. Enjoy it. I am.

I think you have done an outstanding job!!!!
I wonder why the PC10 wasn't a more popular model? Although the Gould Charge is the iconic livery, I can name 4-5 other liveries that would make this body an Indy Car modeler's dream. If we could only get Michael to produce a few sheets for the -10?

At one point Lance and Calvin had passed around a master of the PC-10. There is always a lot of interest in that car, I know I’d buy one or two if given the chance.

Thank you al for your perspectives. I am perhaps being too hard on myself. We’re a self critical bunch, we modelistes.

Dan: I am loving this...looking great so far...geez, you love challenges!...my favorite anecdote about this car is that Rick says whenever he watches the replay of 1982, he hopes each time that he will pull it off, but is always disappointed...this shoulda, coulda, been one of his 5(!) Indy wins... Tim

Tim, Great story, I had not heard that before. Rick is definitely one of the greats. About loving challenges, the choice this time of year is always either spend time in the autowerke or shovel snow. In this case a very close call! Thanks, Dan

This is another build where I could not even fathoming the work it took to get this car to this point had I not seen the WIP. You did a great job and the PC10 looks very nice. Kudos to you for sticking with this one and making it even more accurate. I love a Rick Mears build and the PC10 was awesome in his hands!
I’d buy two if there was an accurate PC10. It is so iconic and beautiful, even without a Borg.
