Maybe getting in over my head. . .(PC10)

Well I got this very rough body from eBay and started doing this and that and here we are so far. If you can ID then I’ve passed the first test.





The way it sits right now, it seems to have a WB of 118 inches, which seems excessive to me, but I don’t know where/how much to section it. The radiator openings were dents in the surface of the side pods and were not shaped the same. I’ve filled them and will need to figure out what to do about them. Other than those issues, I’m looking at a major project.

I believe we have the same body. I was so disheartened when I got it that I just threw mine in a box for another day.
The PC10 had a wheelbase of 109" and an overall length of 15'. It looks to me like most if not all of those extra 11" are in the engine cover, when I compare your photo to this one. I'd have to dig out my body and check it to give you any further ideas, but that's my first thought. Second thought is the side pods need to extend farther to the front, right about under the mirrors.

Hi Paul, disheartening indeed.
Thanks for the numbers. I had added material to the rear of the engine cover because the rear of the side pods prevented the wheels/transaxle from moving forward enough. I think I will trim engine cover back to its original length, then cut back the rear of the side pods so the wheels move forward enough to correct the WB, extend the front of said pods and pour a stiff drink. I’ve already spent time correcting the front suspension fairings so maybe I can end up somewhere close to a shape. It’s either that or shovel the driveway in 4 degree weather. That photo is helpful.

Wow! What a challenge! It seems to me some of the work we do in correcting a model is as satisfying as building something from a kit.

With all your modified HK “kits”, you have hit the nail! I’m not quite ready use the word satisfying yet, but it may yet turn out that way. Time will tell.

I also have this. I have wanted to build this car since it ran. I collected photos over the years, and there was one at the speedway last year, and I took lots of photos. This is great, I will let you figure out how to deal with the issues. I wonder if the dimensions are corrected if the decals will fit. Here is a link to the photos I collected.

Trying to figure out more stuff. It seems the right side pod is 2 mm. wider than the left. Do I widen the left or reduce the right? How can I get a real nice sharp edge and flat ness on the side “beam” structures? I’ve got some ideas about the rad openings- what would you do? I know the roll bar fairings need work. Can I go shoveling now?

Start from scratch. Sometimes fixing something that is so wrong is more difficult than doing it from the ground up. But I'm also sure you appreciate the challenge

Thanks for the perspective. I’d really like a pc10 but it seems like the price for this one is rising faster than the inflation rate🤔🤔
I’m not yet throwing the towel. I think there is not a Clindinst plan for this- are there any accurate drawings available to check with?

Hope this helps, side rendering is complete but the top view is not finished I have some measurements I will dig up and post.

Lance, Thank you so much. Your rendering leads me to believe that the main tub shape is actually quite close, except the cockpit opening goes forward about 8 mm. I sketched the seat back line and the turbo location. Side pods look pretty much ok as is except they need to be a tad higher. Nose seems just about right. I’m becoming convinced this is possible, albeit still a big job. Overall plan view looks spot-on.

The vender that supplied the body included decals. I also have pc9b indycals sheet to supplement. As far as I know this item is out of production.

Nothing to do in this weather but slather on the filler. . .




Eventually, a coat of primer will reveal if I I’ve made a silk (or at least cotton) purse.
