I am starting Gary Dooucette's model of the 1941 Indy winner and have a few questions. I am aware of the previous discussions about the blue color and that the actual car was darker than the one in the IMS Museum. Right now I am planning to use Testor's rattle can #2964 Grabber Blue although it seems a little dark to me. Photos from 1941 show a thin line separating the blue and red panels. Does anyone know if it is white or silver? Finally, the car in the Museum has all four wheels and hubs painted blue while Gary's ad photo shows the front wheels painted blue and the rear red. Photos from the period are not clear to me about what color or if the wheels were painted. Comments and suggestions, please. Thanks, Jim

Jim
The stripe between the red and blue is silver just like the numbers on the car. The wheels should be the same color as the body red in front and blue on the rear. The Blue I think should be a little darker that the car as it now sits in the museum. What blue you use is your call as it's your model, but whatever red and blue you use paint the wheels with the same color red in front and blue in the rear.
Hope this helps

Walt, Thanks so much. Your comments and suggestions are most welcome. I suspected that the stripe was silver like the numbers but I wondered since the "NOC OUT SPL" lettering appears to be white. The 1938 winner was silver stripe, numbers and lettering. I am going to continue to look for the blue color. I am glad to know your recommendation onf the wheel colors. This really does help. As always, Walt, you are a treasure. Jim

Where else can you ask such an obscure question, and get an immediate, definitive answer? This is a GREAT forum!!
