Hi Guys,
I would like to know what Primer I should use with Tamiya Spray Paints ?
IO never used them before so that is why I;m asking.
I use to sell Tamiya Paints at the Hobby Sop I use to work at but I can't remember if
there was Spray Primer in the Paint Rack.
Hope to Hear from you Soon !
Thank you,

Tamiya makes a fine surface primer for both plastic and metal in a 180 ML size. I believe it comes white, pink, gray and rust colors. Not cheap, but it's a great primer and it lays down very smooth, so sanding after isn't required.
Using the same company for primer, color and clear coat is always best.

Hi Jim.
Thanks for the info.
Is the 180Ml size Big ?
Can you give me a rough estimate as to its size !
What can we compare it to ?
Also, does Tamiya have a Clear Coat in a Spray ?
Y Thanks again JimB.
Much Appriciated !

The normal Tamiya TS spray paint for all their colors comes in a 100 ML size. So the primer at 180 ML is almost twice the size. They make a clear coat for the TS series paint and that's TS 13 Clear. Only buy the TS type Tamiya paint which is designed for use on plastic, metal or resin models. I'll usually get two 1/24 scale models sprayed with a can of Tamiya primer before the can goes dry. My LHS sells a can of Tamiya primer for 9 dollars. The price for colors have a wide range of prices going from 6 dollars up till to 12 dollars.
There's 29.57 ML to one ounce, so the cans are on the small size.
I've spend 6 dollars for a 12 ounce size of Plasti-kote brand gray color spot filler and primer, which is a better deal, but it needs to sanded to smooth the surface and is great for filling in minor sand paper scratches and minor sink holes.
I hope this helps. Several other mentioned that using the same paint company from primer to color coat to clear coat is wise and I fully agree.
I had to redo the hood of a corvette C 6-R due to the clear coat cracking from a different paint company from the yellow paint. Plus all the decals were in place. I sprayed just the hood with another company's clear coat, since I ran out of TS 13 that was used for the rest of the body. That cost me both time for re-spray and money for a new SMS bad boys decal sheet.
