Building this car for a team member but wanted to first share a story. I have always been a fan of Roberto (SuperSub) Moreno. His shear excitement and passion for racing always got to me. I have been told what a great guy he was/is. Two different memories come to mind. During the 1997 CART season he subbed for three different teams. Towards the end of the season the other teams presented him with a white drivers helmet that everyone had signed thanking him for being Super Sub and generally being an all around great guy. I will never forget Roberto breaking into tears from the gesture. The second time I remember is when he won the 2000 Cleveland Grand Prix actually dominating it for a great win. Again, his happy tears warmed my heart. At that very same time I had been contracted to Visteon for fuel system testing and one plant had a giant Roberto racing poster hanging on the wall. Man, I wanted that poster but it was bigger than any wall in my house!
Fast forward to 2007. Stephane Gregoire had been slated to drive the #77 Zline car in the 500 but was injured in a practice crash. In came Super Sub again to take over the Chastain Motorsports ill handling car. Roberto qualified the car in 30th position on bump day at over 220mph. The team opted to keep both Gregoire's and Moreno's name on the car for race day.
Sadly on race day Roberto crashed in turn 1 on lap 12 and was registered in last place. Final result and previous crashes aside, the team member still wanted a replica of the car. No doubt as a memory of his friend Roberto Moreno.

How are the decals going on? The blue paint on the body looks a little flat and I know that can cause issues with silvering, etc.
Pupo was a guy it was always nice to see succeed. This will be a nice tribute to the man.

Hard to tell but before applying the decals I hit it with a light coat of clear before applying the decals. The whole car is gloss cleared now and looks great. Updates soon as I am currently adding some carbon fiber decals and adding seat belts and hardware to the seat. Decals for this one come from Gary and they are great.

Did you get the vertically challenged part right on the figure, Stu? JK It is a very nice looking car and one of those builds you never thought you would ever see. But I'm glad we get to see it. Jordan

Indeed Jordan! I bet Roberto won't mind the extra few scale inches! Other than a few other small details the car is done.
