In 2006, my wife bought me a ride in a 2 Seater at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Davy Hamilton was my driver, and I wish I could have rode around the track for hours. For years I thought about trying to build a 1:18 version of this car, then I found a few junk cars. A 1998 Maistro Indy 500 event car that I could use for the front half. And a 2003 Eddie Cheever Red Bull car for the back and a 2003 Scott Sharp for the front cockpit.
The following is not my picture, just needed a good shot of the side.
I used a Dremel to cut the cars in half, and used JB Weld to join them up. I used a orbital sander to smooth out the the JB Weld and filled in the low spots with putty. I guess I accidentally erased the photos of the two half's and the top view after I connected them with the JB Weld. Here's the bottom view though.
I had to cut a lot of extra metal out with my Dremel to open the space for the extra cockpit. JB Weld was used again to join the cockpit to the body, then I filled the holes in with styrene and putty. I also added a piece of styrene to make a bulkhead between the two seats.
And just for fun, I wanted to see how the wheels will look on it. Still a lot of more work to go.
