The event known as the Brickyard 400 is over for 2017....we think. After 6 hours the race concluded only because of the NASCAR overtime protocol. Did Kane actually get to that point on the backstretch before the yellow? Don't know but it was the best call of the day.
Never been a fan of NASCAR and evidently I am not alone. This year's race looked even slimmer. Moving the race to September IMO will not make this race any better. It will compete against the NFL and in its current formula will still create another borefest/wreckfest.
I know there are some really talented drivers in NASCAR, but please NASCAR, quit calling your drivers the world's best. Blocking and rubbing do not equate to best.

You could tell by the attendance that this race is on its way out. Only 29K tickets sold. Was never a fan of NASCAR anyway.

I had tickets for the inaugural event(someone gave them to me)...sold them...thought it desecrated the hallowed ground. This event has jumped the shark. It's a sideshow at the carnival. I heard 80,000 in attendance...no freaking way.You could have packed everyone in the stands into Grandstand C. The product just does not work on that track.

Yeah, 80K would have been 30% full - at best it was 10% full and I'm being generous. Sadly it (and all NASCAR races) is under contract for at least 3 more runnings. I think NASCAR is going to take it in the behind from a LOT of tracks when it comes time to negotiate past 2020. I went to the first 5 - the first one was great, but by the 4th I was losing interest and didn't renew my turn 1 penthouse seats for the 5th year, but went that 5th year anyway (had no problem getting a decent ticket at face value).

I just can't watch these guys anymore. Near the end they wreck every lap. Happens almost every time.

Before the "400" is gone, I wish they would extend the race to a proper 500 miles. That way, the NASCAR guys would be made aware that 500 miles is a lot more than 100 additional miles! I'm always a little peeved when I hear them say that Jeff Gordon is the only driver to win five times at Indianapolis: See that asterisk, Leroy? That means he won a 400-mile race. Now, don't think I'm belittling Gordon's accomplishment. Surviving 400 miles of banging and rubbing and all those bunched-up miles is no little achievement, but still...

I used to be a fairly dedicated NASCAR viewer because I cared about the sport's history. But over the years NASCAR has driven me away the more they've tried to turn it into an NFL-style sport, and the changes for 2017 finally killed it for me. We tried watching the Daytona race a few weeks back, but spent more time snarking about it than anything else. After that, there was no way we were watching whatever played out at the Brickyard.
NASCAR has made me care more about what's happening in open-wheel and sports car racing. There can be some gimmickry in those events from time to time, but I feel like I'm watching a race.

Did not watch it live but watched clips on YT. I found the last yellow timing to be suspicious.

I found the last yellow timing to be suspicious. Jordan I suspect the timing had something to do with the gathering darkness and the fact that there are no lights at Indy. The HAD to end the race. That being said, I am a NASCAR fan. I don't really care for the goofy scoring they have, but I do watch the races, and I was happy to see Kahne win.

The problem NASCAR has today is that Brian France and company have tried to manufacture unnecessary drama and create a "playoff" scenario among other nonsense.
The series really began to suffer when they kept manipulating the cars and ended up with the present non-car that is build only to race and with non production engines.
The other issue is the drivers are all cookie cutter rich kids that bring sponsor dollars and basically buy a ride. NASCAR is not the only series that suffers from this problem. When any racing series gets too far from it's roots, the series is ruined and begins a death spiral.
