1/12 Mclaren cosworth

Has anyone ever tried to build and modify a 1/12 Tamiya Mclaren m23 into a indianapolis car? It looks to me that f1 to indy are both the same besides the engine cowling and turbo, but finding tires and wheels would be hard?

that would be very cool with the right decals too!

Yes, it has been done. At least it was started. A few months ago, there was a 1/12 conversion on eBay that was half completed. The guy had modified the engine and part of the body. From the pictures, it looked like he did a great job on the engine. He had lost interest in completing it and put it on Ebay. I was bidding on it but I wasn't willing to go as high as it went for. So, there is at least 1 of these out there.

After I missed out on this car I found 2 old Tamiya M23 (junk yard) cars that I will some day use to try doing a 1:12 Indy car.

Cool I would like to do one some day....if I knew where or what to do with the wheels?
Also I guess if anyone molded a 1/12 offy, that could be modified in also then I would do JR's 1973 Gulf Mclaren and scratch build the B I G - R E A R - W I N G and extend out that engine cowling! That would be cool! I think I might look into this some more?

Hi Guys,

I was the guy that started the build and lost interest. Maybe one day I will try another one. I have trouble posting photos for some reason but my friend Paul will try to post them for me soon.
Use the McLaren MP wheels and tires for the conversion if you try it. Some modification is necessary but they are about as close as you can get.

Cool, I would like to see it. I have a Williams FW14B junker that I think the tires could be used off of?
