Hi Chaparral. I scratchbuilded two in 1/24 scale, but for formula 1. The most dificult part to scratch is the body that cover the cockpit, i made the 73 and 74 version, both are in my workbench wainting my patience back... Very nice build, good job. Cheers. Alexandre

If you have access to one of Bill Jorgensens versions of the M-16, you might want to use the cockpit/engine cover instead of the one that comes with the AMT kit. Bill's version has the correct (rounded shape) at the front. You will still have to reshape the engine cover. Conversion looks good so far.

RussD Yes that cockpit cover is a problem I noticed that when I got my first AMT mclaren but I think It would be worth just getting a few from Bill. But its a start im just trying to think of new idea's... this is more of a rough draft in my eyes.

Well, here in Brazil is very dificult find these Bill Jorgensen kits, and i used a paper model as basis to scratchbuild the cockpit cover. I made the piece in transparent plastic, the lower part will be painted, i ain't not decided what version (73or 74) i'll finish. i also scratchbuild a M16 in 1/24, but don't know when will be finished. All McLaren i made using 1mm styrene. Cheers. Alexandre

I have a bunch of paper models of cars that have never been produced in plastic or resin and I've been using them to cut out plastic bodies. Most of the paper kits that are available are 1:24 scale and are nearly 100% F1 cars. RussD
