I just looked at the listing. Calvin has given me credit for the master, along with Tim. Tim did all the work on the master, I had nothing to do with it. All I did was make a few phone calls. Credit where credit is due, this is all the work of Tim, and Calvin.

I have the decals done (race day, blue car) - just need to set up a web page. I’ll get my decal order in soon! May I bring up the color of the car as raced? Any recommendations? I’ve never been able to tell if the color photos published in 1962 were accurate. If they were, I’ve thought that Testors Nassau Blue might be close, as I think that’s the proper color for the Corvette Grand Sport cars, and the color photos of the day of the two cars always looked similar. What color has been used on Lance’s 1963 Thompson car? In magazine photos of the day it looks a bit darker but brighter blue, maybe not even a metallic. Thoughts? Paul Erlendson

What was the color on the land speed record car? Just a thought.

Super album! Dan Gurney looks like a kid in a candy shop in that color pic and the frame tubing looks like it was painted with zinc chromate. It's not the yellow that I thought it was. Now that the kit is here I have too many shiny squirrels in my doghouse. I need to finish a couple of McLarens.

Trying to formulate a suspension for this car. The biggest question that I have is the suspension symmetrical or was there an offset?
Thanks Joe Scott

Joe
They Was NO offset on this car. Do not use pictures or the restored car as a reference. It has more mistake that things that are right, But I would still like to have this car. Here is a video of the car as it ran in 1963 this might help

I have pages of a magazine article showing the suspension in several photos and a cutaway drawing but I cannot figure out how to post them. I searched help and it tells me that there should either be an attachments button but I cannot find that option. I also do not have any image hosting service to use. I can email these photos to another member for them to post.

Something to remember: 3 cars were built, and each is unique...you can see the differences fron the pictures Calvin posted...the #35 has different bodywork from the #34...the front wishbones changed from the original (picture with Croswaite), to the car as raced...I will begin a WIP when the KBCruiser is finished...the model's suspension is designed for anything from a basic setup, to full-on space frame...the engine cover can be removed to show the engine (the builder will have to cut the hood)...it can be basic curbside, or super duper detailed...I will be pointing things out that I want to change, because a resin cast is more easily modified than a plastic master...Please remember, this started like this: "Hey Craig! I think I can make a body of Gurney's rookie ride." As it developed, Craig asked "Don't you want one yourself?" I said sure but how? Craig called Calvin, and Calvin agreed to pour 3 bodies for each of us. Upon receiving the body, Calvin asked if he could sell it. I said sure. So something I was doing as a "one-off for a friend" became this kit... I often wonder how people develop a master...I sent this to Calvin with my brain going "fix this; change that; re-do this" but if that continued, it would have never been cast...so I will make do with what I have... Color? Race day version sure looks Testors Nassau Blue...includes some kind of "deflector over the intakes" and exhaust that ends at the end of the car... Color? Qualifying version is Icebox White or Pearl White(?)...stripes are deep metallic blue (much darker than the race color) exhausts extend out behind the car (which Gurney said needed cutting off) for the race... This video shows qualifying run (4:41 begins) and race pit stop (13:20)...
More to come... Tim

So I've been studying. It appears to me that Harvey Aluminum was the sponsor of the #35 car. When Rachwitz failed to make the field the Harvey Aluminum sponsorship moved over to the #34 hence the re-paint. It looks like they switched from Hillborn injection to Weber side draft carbs to find more speed but still couldn't get the speed to qualify. The #33 car was the Kimberley Special and neither Bill Cheesbourg nor Chuck Daigh could get that one in the field. I would like to see a color pic of that car as I think it was midnight blue and would lend credence to dark blue being the color used on the '61 Kimberley Special. I may be off with my ideas but I'm enjoying the chase

They did try a cross over Hilborn fuel injection system that didn't prove to be as effective as the standard vertical setup. The Kimberly Special was red with white trim. Paul Erlendson

Thanks Paul The cross over injection gives an interesting look to the back of the car. I've yet to find a color pic of the Kimberley car so i'll take your word on the color.
