Hi.
Working on a Paul Tracy 1/18 Roadcourse Minichamps Penske. Some of the sponsors are tampo and some seem to be decals The decals remove quite easily with a finger nail and some tape but this doesn't work on the Penske's on the sided which I assume are tampo Any suggestions on removing these..not looking to repaint entire model..just want to replace the 2 Penske's with...you know what?!!
Thanks Mike

Mike, go buy some fingernail polish remover. Buy some that only has some acetone because straight acetone is too strong. Pour some in a cup and dip a Q-Tip in it and gently rub. Switch out your Q-Tip often until all the tampo decal is removed. Be super careful on plastic parts as it will remove the paint! When the tampo is gone, rub an automotive wax over it and you are good to go.

Thanks for the quick reply Stu. Will give that a shot Mike And you have to do it quickly. It doesn't take but 3-4 seconds to soften the tampo. Stu has done this many times so he's telling you right. I use a soft cotton rag on my index finger dampened with remover, wipe once then move the rag, dampen & wipe again. If you continue to wipe too much you will soften the white paint, that's bad. Sometimes you will still have a "ghost" after it's removed but the tobacco usually hides the ghost. On the rear wing I don't remove all of the tampo just most then I cut a piece of white vinyl & cover the remaining. Just my way of doing these. After you do several it gets easier.

Thanks Stu..worked like a charm. Will the auto wax impact the decal adhesion at all?
Senna, i alternated the nail polish with some water to ensure it didn't get down into the paint. I don't see any ghosting so I guess it was a success. The rear wing decals pretty much fell off so I will repaint that part again before applying the "you know what' decals. But I do like your idea on white vinyl as well

If anything the waxing will make the surface smoother and the decal adhere better. But, you should wash the metal first before applying the decal in case you plan to clear coat your new decals. Not real good to clear over wax!
