Let's keep all of the race talk in this thread. The track is green for practice right now. There are plenty of streams out there - Youtube, app, indycar.com, etc. I am listening to the IMS radio feed via the app and have the Indycar.com leaderboard up in my browser. I was going to keep a list of guys coming this year, so I will keep tabs of that here: Jordan (indy) Early thoughts on the 500? Honda clear advantage again this year? Does Chevy have what it takes to keep winning the odd year 500s? IMS claims her first victim - Jack Harvey. Slapped the wall with the right side pretty good. Going to a longer night for the Shank/Andretti crew guys now.

33 entries, 33 spots on the grid... makes things simple. Gonna make Bump Day kinda boring. Pathetic... I remember the days when there were 50 or 60 (or more) entries for those 33 spots.

True it is 33 now but I am hoping we will see some wheeling and dealing for backup cars to give guys without rides a chance at making the field. I am sure Briscoe, Hawksworth, Blackstock, etc would love a chance at a ride. A guy can hope!! I think all drivers took a lap today except for Lazier. I wonder if he's only paying for a short schedule again this year!! Two Hondas over 225 and the top of the board was mostly Hondas (9 of top 11 I think it was). Jordan

That should get some people responding

I am a big fan of Buddy, but I wish he would stop doing this.

I am worried about engines being a limiting factor on more than 33 cars qualifying, too.
Racer Magazine's YT channel had a few interview clips yesterday. Harvey had a steering malfunction! Explains the strange crash but that is a scary failure. Glad it happened at lower speeds!

Too much stuff going on at Andretti right now. Looks like they are just way overloaded, not a comfortable spot if you a driver.

Weather looks good. Hoping we can get it all in before the afternoon showers. The 44, 11, & 17 are already rolled into their pit boxes down on my end of pit road.
Fantasy game is different for Indy so make your picks!!

Wish I was there. I'm just hoping for a fast, safe race. And a full 500 miles, all at one time.

I drew Newgarden, Dixon, Helio and Jones in our camp pot. Thought I was looking pretty good at the start of the race and was still looking good at the end with Helio and Jones right there but Sato cost me $140!!

Great time at the Show and seeing and meeting several guys for the first time. The race was awesome and even though I feel bad for Helio, I feel better that Sato redeemed himself from 2012. I bet there is an even faster race in Japan right now between Japanese model makers. Come on Tamiya! I would settle for a 1/20th scale Honda but how about issuing a special 1/12th scale!!!

The weekend was fun.
Michael was right that Thursday was a great day to get to the track. The museum was great and pretty empty early in the day. I saw Michael Portaro and Eric Hensley there but they were gone when I tried to catch up with them. Overall, a fun time since I had not been there since maybe 1995? I did have a funny moment where I corrected a museum worker when he tried to tell me the special edition Firestones for last years' race had all 500 winners, so I showed him the gap from Al Unser to Buddy Lazier. I tried to make him feel better and told him as a Mears fan, that was the first thing I had looked for on them, so I figured out they were just the Firestone winners pretty quick. Most of the vintage cars were out on Thursday so I spent a lot of time looking them over and photographing. Even chased down and got to talk to our own Walt/OldPhotos.
Carb Day was fun, saw the street tired 2 seat IndyCar out turning off of 10th onto Main St - quite the bizarre sight! Did not take a lot of pictures on Friday but was very happy to see so many race simulations runs. I thought it might just be mostly installation laps, pitting practice, and with few full speed laps but it was a good session.
Legends Day was good. Got to the memorabilia show fairly early but left to get a seat in the shade for the the vintage cars and Driver's Meeting. Less vintage cars ran than I expected but still a fun time. Driver's Meeting was good but was looking forward to the garage access then going back to see the rest of the memorabilia show tables. I was restrained in my buying, with my biggest cash outlay coming at the IndyCals table. Michael and Eric were great to catch up with but was sad Stu was gone by then.
Sunday weather was great, so glad to get the race in on Sunday. I had a late Monday flight but really worried about having to leave before it was done to make my flight out of Midway. The race out front was good but seemed like less back and forth this year. Pigot was obviously struggling with his car and was by far the slowest of the day. DCR did a great job! Pippa's engine sounded off most of the race to me (especially early in the race), Davison was electric, and Jones was super solid. I think if Fredo was a no name, too, that Ed might have won the ROY vote. Both were great but I think Alonso got some popularity votes. The whole Honda camp was impressive - Ganassi, Andretti, etc had a ton of speed. The Chevys were scrappy at times though - kudos to them for running so well. The crowd when CRAZY when Helio was making passes at the end, I think they wanted to see history in the making. In the end Sato-san was just too fast for Helio. Sato is not a personal favorite but I was rooting for him on lap 200 in 2012 so in the end, that helped make this one easier. Looking forward to making it three years in a row, it is nice going to the 500 for consecutive years (first time for me).

A great race weekend, although the threat of rain did loom large... large enough that I extended my stay by a day. Worked out well as it allowed me to attend the victory banquet for the first time ever. Unfortunately my schedule was a bit ambitious and has caught up with me and I've done nothing but sleep since getting home. I'm up just long enough to get some food in me then back to bed for another 10-12 hours.

What a race! Sorry I didn't get to catch up with everyone out at the track. Didn't spend as much time as I wanted out there. Once again all the action was in front of us. Love this place so much. Can't wait till next year.
Random thought...last year I felt sorry for Gabby Chavez. Who lost the 98 ride to Rossi. This year I feel extra sorry for Munoz who lost the 26 ride to Taku. Finished 2nd twice then loses the eventual winning ride this year. Such a freaking bummer.

It was a great weekend. I got to meet Stu (sorry I didn't get to talk more to you) and spend time with Michael. It was great to see you fellows, my biggest regret was that I couldn't see more of you.
I always have a good time at IMS, and this year's 500 is no different!

I had the pleasure of spotting in turn 3 for Ed Jones. What an up and down month for us. About 10 laps to go it hit home, "we have a shot at winning this" He had some extra drag at the end without the nose cap. Earlier, Marco checked up off 4, then Veach reacted and we hit Veach. So a rear wing assembly change after the Dixon crash took off one of our winglets dropped us to 28th. Fought back up, hit Veach and then went on to finish 3rd. It was fun to call. The kid is really talented and doesn't react to pressure. That is my best finish ever at Indy.

I would guess the pressure being a spotter is enormous. There were certainly plenty who insisted Ed should have been ROY, and I can't really argue. I told myself after the race that Alonso would get ROY (and I can't argue with that either) but it should be Co-ROY. Like Rick Mears and Larry Rice, not bad company. MJ

Looks like my fun will continue. The 18 car full time spotter was not able to travel to Texas. I'll be spotting for Tristan tonight in the 18. Ed retains Pancho Carter who I shared duties with at the 500. Typically I'm in the pits with the 19 car.

I know I'm late in saying this, but I was very pleased to be at this year's Indy 500 to see Sato win the race. In fact, this is what I captured when Sato won it all and my reaction behind the lens
