Wow, not many would have the guts to cut up a valuable diecast but this is going to be a cool project. Will certainly be one of a kind by the time you are done. Great start, looking forward to the progress. Interesting to see coyote orange next to the flo red STP car of Mario.

Very very cool! I always loved this under appreciated Coyote.
Looking at the pic of the front row - I've always believed the 91 front row was the greatest ever, but this is a close second.
Looking forward to this. I've never been much of a scratch builder so I'm always amazed by those talented enough to do something like this.

Not sure if you wanted feedback, Stu, but it is hard to judge the size of this without the other piece of the sidepod there. Does this piece kind of bulge going back?
Also the other side does not look like a copy. The top angles up and the bottom looks to be lower on the right side.
HTH, you are doing great work.

Feedback is appreciated! I am still massaging it. Right now I think it's actually to long length wise and maybe should start further back at the cockpit. They do angle up a bit but I believe the two are symmetrical. I will download another photo of the real car once I can get photobucket to work again. So many issues with that site...

Looking good, Stu. I gave up on Photobucket long ago. Imgur is so much better IMO.

I see the symmetry better from the new pic. I guess the curved leading edge is what I saw that threw me off on the right sidepod.
From the first pic, it kind of looks like Foyt's cockpit opening might be bigger than Mario, hard to say for sure and might not be something you want to tackle, even if it could be proved. I thought the sidepod could move forward a bit and shorten it. Looks like it starts ahead of the mid-point of the cockpit opening and stops just after the roll bar. Just something to consider, keep up the good work.
The sides and bottom of these pieces do seem to widen as they go back. Seems like the little radiator is encased in there.

The radiator is forward of the pedals near the end of the nose. The two slots allow fresh air into the cockpit. The small "radiator" on the left hand side pod is an oil cooler. Not sure if there is a matching one on the other side. Likely one for the engine and another for the transmission. Heat was the enemy of these cars with all the turbo and engine stuffed in there together, it was all about airflow. Mario's car fought overheating all day and likely would have expired within another lap or two. Walt Goodwin told me his father was the gearbox guy. On the morning after the race, he opened the gear box to find no oil in there. Taking the gear stack out, they were crystallized. When he dropped one, it shattered like glass. True story, well documented. The gearbox was literally cooked. Mario was very fortunate to win and he knows it.

I think you have the radiator pretty well nailed after the revisions. Love the figure & the hankerchief. Going very well.

Great engineering, Stu.
The side scoop looks really good, too. It is very close to the picture and there are tons of variables that throw off such comparisons.

Just out of curiosity... since you were airbrushing, why not mix the yellow and bright red?

I thought of that Michael but wasn't sure I would mix them right. 50/50? In the past I had a good friend that worked in a paint shop and he would always electronically mix paint for me. Then he up and moved to Seattle. I sprayed the TS Yellow right from the can. Then I de-canned the red for the airbrush. This was the first time using my new GREX ever so I guess to fully answer your question. I was too chicken!
