I have seen a few builds of the Target car, but I'm not a JPM fan, and I liked the look of this one. Last year Ed, and Tom had a small group buy on these, so I got one. Some health problems have kept me away from the paint booth lately, but I did get this done. While I sure don't have much experience with an airbrush, so far this thing is pretty sweet.

That looks really, really good! You're right that you don't see many of this version built and you've nailed the paint.
I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Good job on the paint! That's what's always scared me away from that car

Cool to see a Robbie Buhl build. I remember watching the 2001 500 a few years back and being surprised how I'd forgotten how well he was running late in that race until he spun out. This is a nice car and it is good to see it being built in differently, though there is nothing wrong with a Jimmy V build if you don't care for JPM I want to say the TCGR team cars differed slightly, running a different shock setup which resulted in different shock covers. Nice work with the Grex. I have admired those but not their price tag Still seems like a really nice setup to do great airbrush work, especially more precise stuff like this paintjob. Keep it up, I like these Etzel/ARM builds. Jordan

Yes, Jordan, the Grex is a "holy crap" even with a discount. I have a couple of cheaper airbrushes, but have never had much luck with them. This thing seems to be user friendly, and is easy to adjust, and clean. The real upside is the control you get, and the use of much less paint. Even after painting the blue, there was almost no overspray, or smell in the booth. As I said, I'm a newbie with this system, but I really like this gun. I suspect that I will still use a can for the clearcoat thou. I really wanted to build this car, and I can't think of any other way to do that orange.

I have the Grex as well and like it a lot. My other brush is a Paasche Talon, it sprays nice but the o rings seem to not last very long, I also had to tighten the adjustment for the needle packing to keep the paint from blowing back into the trigger assembly. My older (and retired) brushes are the Badger 150 and the Testors Aztek (hate the Aztek). Iwata has a new brush out that is very much like the Grex and a bit cheaper (not sure if it comes with as many accessories as the Grex), they are known for making some very nice brushes.

"Not a JPM fan?" I would have never guessed...the way we pulled for Power in the closing laps, then listened to Burd gloat, I'm pretty sure that JPM will never make your favorite 100 Indycar drivers... This looks great! The new airbrush looks like a keeper...One thing about the IRL: it had cool paint jobs... Tim

They are working out, Jordan. You have to be quite careful with them, but so far, so good. (fingers crossed)

Very cool. Mr. Miller! I am sure that it looks outstanding with the other cars on the shelf...as I have said before, whether or not you liked the IRL, it had some special paint jobs...I saw this car, and several others, live and in person, and under the lights at TMS, they were dazzling...the Delphi Sharp car, the Menard's cars, the Reebok cars, the Pennzoil cars (specifically the American flag Hornish cars and the silver Schekter winner), and this beauty... It would have been better with all the CART guys, but that's the way it goes...I am gonna do the Herta Shell car to give CART equal time on cool paint schemes... Tim

That's very well done and a definite change of pace. I like it a lot. I especially like the paint fade, which is what kept me from doing Darrell Waltrip's Daytona 500 winner (what is it with detergent sponsors and fades, anyway?). Especially interested to read your comments about the Grex airbrush. My husband got one a couple years ago and loves it for many of the same reasons you listed, and between his comments and yours I may need to pick one up myself.
Thank you for sharing!
