Hey guys
Back for another ramble.
Just finished building the first 1/20th plastic kit in 37 years. Seriously. Last one I built was a Ligier JS11 Tamiya job in 1981.
And I have to admit its all down to the inspiration taken from seeing what you guys have thrown together in this forum.
I have been stuck on 1/43rd stuff for years. A combination of your material and Ebbro putting out that sexy Lotus 91 led me astray!
This is odd though. I need to get over to the opticians. I struggled. Not that I can't glue stuff together but I just cannot see the really small parts too well and fitting them is a nightmare. Somehow the 1/43rd stuff is never that small or detailed.
First to admit I need more practise before building anything with an exposed Cosworth/rear section.....
The Ferrari 126 c2 was bought and built for me as a birthday present. MFH/Fujimi mash.
The Lotus was just so right. And whilst I considered the Indycal decals for the Austrian car I kept the Brands version.
What I have put together ain't perfect.
Somehow the front and rear suspension seemed to end up about 3mm higher than it should be but at least its level.
The home made skirt took care of the rest.
Brands Hatch 1982. My favourite driver in the Ferrari is hunting down Elio in my favourite car from 1982 heading into the last laps.
Patrick took Elio on the last lap as he suffered from fuel starvation. Patrick takes his first podium of his career and I leave the track very happy and sympathetic that the Lotus did not get the result it should have had. Figured that was it for the Lotus with the fast tracks coming up on the schedule. Overjoyed when Patrick won in Germany. Laughed like a drain and and cheered when Elio won in Austria where really he should not have.
Not meant to be an advert but checking out the available decals from Indycals it was great to see Moreno and Lees listed for the Lotus 91.
Another boring story for another time, but I spent a good while talking to Geoff Lees at Brands over that weekend as he waited to see if he was going to jump in as Mansell was not really fit. Mansell drove in the end but that was probably more to do with not allowing Lees a good crack at Brands in a decent car...... Mansell mania never did it for me even if I do live in England.
