Hi all, I bought this kit the other day and would like your input on it. I would like to build it as Mario's car and I noticed that Indycals has a sheet for it. For those of you that have built any of these late 70s AMT kits: what is your opinion? Pros and cons? Thank you for your input, G

The kit parts are really good. Use the Indycal decals, the kit decals are poor quality.

Haven't built it (yet) but I've gone through a few boxes and I am disappointed with the two piece plastic wheels. I am guessing that is what these cars came with!?!? One piece rubber tires would be nice!

Jordan - You must have the later releases of those kits as most of mine DO have the rubber tires like the AMT Rutherford McLaren. The two piece plastic ones wouldn't be so bad if they were styrene so you could glue them together and eliminate the seam.
Mike - The cockpit cover can be a pain but the main thing is to fabricate the missing piece behind the driver's head. Without it you can see right under the rollbar to the engine compartment. All in all a decent kit with some work. It's main use anymore seems to be as a donor kit for Jorgensen resin kits. Haven't seen a new build of this one in ages.

I did one a year or so ago. I used kit decals for the most part, but made my own SNEVAs to convert it to Tom's ride. I agree, those tires were a bad idea, and herk is right, it needs a piece of styrene to close off the back of the cockpit. I didn't (didn't think of it during construction), but my next one sure will.

Is there anything different about this kit and the Rick Mears '79 kits, other than decals?
