Stop The Bleeding…. A Painters Tip!
Have you ever done a tape out for an awesome graphic or two tone only to be disappointed when you pull the tape and you have bleed through or paint creep? This can be avoided with the following trick…. After you have your tape out done burnish your tape down really tight paying attention not to have any gaps. Mix a batch of clear at a ratio of 1:2 or slightly thinner (when mixing paints, the ratio is always shown as Paint : Reducer) Spray a light coat of this mixture along the tape out line(s) not too heavy…just enough to form a slight bridge between the tape and taped off color…Again a thin coat here as you want to avoid a tall edge between the colors. Spray your second colors(s) and presto… when you pull the tape….. no bleed or creep of your second color! What this procedure does is provide a seal at the taped edge with clear. If there is any bleed or creep it will be with the clear…. having that seal with clear between the taped paint and the edge of the tape will give you a razor like transition with no bleed or creep every time. I use this procedure all the time on 1:1 fades and graphics with flawless results. The tape shades on the rear fenders of this truck I painted were done with this procedure… Note how crisp the tape out fades are. Peace…. Jimmy “RASS”

Great tip - I've used a similar tactic where I would shoot the base color but that doesn't work for all color combinations so the clear solves that.
