IndyCar Series on Versus The Streets of Long Beach Sunday, April 19th @ 3:30 pm et Versus.comSaw this on the Google ads and thought I'd remind everyone. Not sure I will be able to watch this one... Will be interesting to see what kind of race the IRL spec cars will put on this weekend, but I hope for the sport's sake that it is a good one. Jordan

I remember the two Long Beach races I attended in '93 and '94 very well. There is a crossover bridge over the main straight to get to the stands and if you were lucky (or unlucky) enough to be crossing when the cars passed underneath... Ah, turbochargers. G

I used to love standing on the bridges at Mid Ohio when the cars went under them. The tunnels at Indy are cool too!!

How was it? I was spending time with the parents and their cable couldn't get a good signal from Versus (got about 2 seconds of video each minute I watched - audio was less frequent) so I'm not sure if their cable stinks or they don't really get that channel!?!?
Wished I could have seen it - I tried to catch the recap on Sportscenter last night - BIG waste of time!! They talked about Helio getting out, today being the 1 year anny of Danica's win, and then showed Dario taking the checkers - talk about minimal coverage and nothing of substance!! I guess ESPN doesn't like not carrying the races anymore!?

I don't think you guys missed a thing. Might have been the worst race I have ever seen. St. Petersburg was bad, but this was much worse. Street racing just sucks. Between Long Beach and F1 in China a real bad day for open wheel racing. Long Beach might be a great party, but it is a lousy race. Craig

Craig The difference is that weather has pretty much dictated the last two F1 races. Not much to be done when it rains that hard. There were still plenty of interesting stories. The ovals and permanent road courses should be much better shows for the IndyCar fans though. Actual fans not partiers which is a big portion of the people who attend the LB race and a big part of why I don't go anymore. G

Count me in at NOT being a devotee of street courses. I say courses because it is not racing.

It's sort of funny. As I was watching the race yesterday, I was thinking, Indycar racing just ain't what it used to be without the names of Rutherford, Johncock, Mears, Unser and the like. Then I remembered my father saying much the same when I was watching those guys. He'd say Indycars just aren't the same without names like Sachs, Jones, Ward, Foyt and the like! Of course he couldn't get over the fact that they actually put engines in the rear of the car. He just felt the English messed everything up doing that! I always told him I liked the rear engines, because that what I ran in the quarter midgets we raced in the late sixties and early seventies. So, I guess the bottom line is I'll just thave to get used these new guys and gals, but I guess racing will never be what it used to be when you were a kid!

The best thing, and some say the only good thin about the Long Beach Race is all the Pit-Poppies and their plastic parts...Some made by Monogram....<BG>
Best to you

Well...so it goes.... My Grandfather used to race against Wilbur Shaw and worked for Louis Meyer. He said many times, the very best driver he raced against was, in his words...."The Gentleman from Terra Haute." Even though Shaw was from Shelbyville, Indiana. He had a few choice words for those he didn't like....Some artists work in oils, others use clay, some like the craftsmen here in this forum use plastic and putty....My Grandpa use profanity, he was a true master! I was and am an A. J. Foyt fan. We would argue on who was better all the time. Grandpa would say Shaw, I would say Foyt...this would go on for hours. Just about the time we would agree to disagree....my Dad would say, "what about Vukovich?" and we would start all over again.... Great times!

I guess racing will never be what it used to be when you were a kid! Ain't it the truth. No matter if it was "better" or "worse". It just won't ever be what it used to. G
