Glad to see you finally making this one.
Is the large size to try to get more ram air effect? This was a big trial and error period and maybe Ligier's designer was trying big curvy airbox designs!? Just a guess...

Could only be used for the first couple of races of the 1976 season as the lower air box rule went into effect.

Just a guess... Jordan Yeah, I really debated on whether or not to keep this, as its so expensive! But got the itch to just go ahead and build it....so it's mine for good now! I'm sure the huge airbox had like you said, more of a ram air effect......and as we know, air moves in crazy ways at speed.

Paul Erlendson It's like they knew that and thought, lets just make a wild design just for the heck of it! LOL But it seems like having such a huge airbox would mess up the airflow to the rear wing?

I thought they had longer intake stacks under the cover? More torque. Let's not forget there was a lot of room for a potential sponsor there. I'm only guessing, as well..

It was very easy to see the Gitanes lady from behind the guardrails in general admission at Long Beach. Maybe it was all about the marketing?? :-)

I saw some tall airbox cars run at Mosport back in the day. They ran with pantyhose over the air intake to keep the ubiquitous sand out.

Really great job on the surface prep. This looks like a body that would magnify imperfections. I did not even notice the louver piece had come separate until I went back to look at the original unboxing photos.

To my surprise, the decal job has turned into an extreme challenge. I first started with the cowling white/blue line decal. Which the decal blue was not even close to the Tamiya French blue that was recommended for paint color. I had to cut off the blue. Then I went on to apply the white part which cracked and broke and didn't want to stick at all. Then I applied Solvaset.....then I applied some more.....and some more.....and some more....and about after 30mins of dumping it on....I finally got some kind of melting of the decal to get it to stick and hug the surface of the body. Now I'm thinking, after an hour for just one line decal, this is not good. Then I went ahead and tried to apply the side tub decal and you can see from the picture.....it was a crazy struggle to get that to form....exactly 40mins of a Solvaset bath to get that white decal to somewhat hug that angled surface and even come close to sticking. I'm not bragging but, I've feel I know how to decal, and I've decaled hundreds of models and if I can't get these to do anything....somethings not right.....it really reminds me of those horrible UV decals that don't work at all....unless you get the hair dryer out and melt them on....but that's very tricky as you have almost NO control. It's very frustrating to have a $200 model and can't even get the decals on.....This is last years Studio 27 reissue....I was expecting good quality Cartograf sheet in this kit....but this is not one at all....there is no name of who made this JS5 sheet.

Young Calvin, I feel your pain. This sort of thing is really frustrating after all that work and especially on a high dollar kit like this.

Sorry for the struggles Calvin. I am sure you can figure a way around this. Maybe the white stripes could be hand cut out of trim film or white decal paper. You might want to scan the decal sheet in case you need to beg a decal maker to do a quality sheet. On F1M, JamesB always seems interested in doing decals for F1 modelers in need.

It'll be ok....this just gets added to the big pile of kits I have that need decal jobs.....which has been adding up a lot lately. Its best to just stick with building kits that Indycals can be used.....because with Indycals, you are in good hands.

Looking at the photos of the real car might you take a step back and use all the masking skills ou acquired painting Miss Budweiser? Strip the entire body and then spray it white. Do your magic and mask then white areas and the lay on your blue. I think you would be much more satisfied with your results. Just my two cents.

Too painful Im a resin builder...I already go through too much pain, I build models like this in hopes of no pain. I'd rather sit and complain than do all that work. Im sure uncle Craig will send me to my room after saying that! Then I'll call cousin Duane and tell him my feelings.....because hes a softy and cares.

I am sorry ,I arrive after the battle ,but "the teapot" was not Ligier JS5 .It was the first 1977 F1 Renault-tubo: RS01 ,that Britishs call "yellow teapot". And , the "Gitane blue" used for Ligier cars ,was : FIAT 497 "Blu cannes"(Dupli-Color/Motip 45050). Tamyia blues are not "exact". It was not the same than the two used by Matra .
