Quite the character. I think over the years he did a lot of good for F1, but he certainly overstayed his welcome. I do like that Ross Brawn will be a big part of the new leadership. Paul Erlendson

Whenever somebody leaves, we should say something good, about them. Bernie is gone......GOOD.

I'm sad to see him go! As most know, I'm a huge Bernie fan. He's a real icon in the sport. He brought a huge amount of wealth to the sport and made a lot of people very rich.....I expect the sport to suffer from a business standpoint since he is gone now.

Bernie definitely made F1... but at the same time he made it a losing proposition for promotors.

That was an expensive track to build as-is without the Bernie Bucks being hemorrhaged to host the USGP.

I told Craig that I saw him at COTA 2 years ago...he had another guy with him and 2 hot 20 somethings...the thing I noticed was that he was ancient! Up close he looked at least 100...Calvin: my 40 year career in sales taught me that with successful businessmen, there are always those who love or hate them depending on whether they made money or not...Bernie made himself and a few others a LOT of money...tracks and their promoters; not so much...however, his influence in making F1 a billion dollar + global entity cannot be denied... I'm not sure what kind of reaction my comment will get, but I really never liked what all his mandated changes did to the face of the Speedway.

No doubt, Bernie made F1 what it is today, good, or bad. He made several very rich, at the expense of many more, especially the fans. F1 as an, in person, spectator sport has become way too restrictive, and expensive for most of us regular people. As long as governments are willing to foot the bill, this will continue. The empty seats we see at almost all races, F1, Indycar, and NASCAR are the result of pricing yourself out of business. I am a capitalist, but there is a limit. The show is not worth the price.

Bernie leaves with a mixed legacy for sure. He brought prosperity and greater safety to the sport. But, his love of a big pay day alienated a lot of people and made certain races and tracks crucial to the tradition and history of F1 either an endangered species or gone altogether.
I don't know how this will turn out, but hopefully stability, prosperity, fan interest, and most crucially, good racing come with the new leadership.

Im thinking about coming out with a 1/20 scale resin Bernie figure that you all can buy from me.

OK. Going back a bit but....
Taken from a Nigel Roebuck book and adapted slightly from a Stuart Turner after dinner speech. Only just read it but decided to share.
'Imagine this. Jean Marie Balestre, Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone arrive in heaven.
'''Mr Balestre?'' God enquires, and Jean Marie steps forward. ''This will be your room.'' And in there is this awful hag. '' Mr Balestre,'' God says, ''for your sins on earth, you will stay in this room for eternity.''
'''Mr Mosley, please?'' Same story. Another horrible room, another dreadful old crone. ''Max Mosley, for your sins on earth, you will pass eternity in here.''
'''Right, now, Mr Ecclestone.... You will be in here.'' God opens another door - and there inside is Joan Collins looking like she did at 30, reclining on a sofa in a black negligee. And God says, ''Joan Collins, for your sins on earth......
