I am in the process of starting to collect parts for this project. In the 80s the Sakura company made some excellently made resin bodies (I have their Brabham BT20!). I bought this one from Evilbay for $60... With the help of friends from this forum I received great rims that match the Honda's... and will use some of the Goodyear "hollow" tires that I have been hording over the years. My first job was to cut out the molded in engine/trans and the slot driver... I then began on the engine using a Monogram Lamborghini V12. However, that engine is a 60* and the Honda's is a 90*. So I cut off the heads and tried using the heads from a Ferrari engine which were re-positioned to be at 90*. I'm still not satisfied with the engine yet so I'll try again...I'm also gathering suspension parts but will use the rocker arm upper front suspension from my favorite parts source the AMT Indy Lotus.

So the molded in engine wasn't up to standard, huh? This is already shaping up like a fun WIP to watch come together. Keep up the good work, Patrick.

Rare kit. I think Mike Quarterman had one of those years ago when I was over at his house in San Jose. Body is very nice.

Patrick, do you have a copy of the 1/12 Tamiya kit instructions as a reference? If not I can give you a link to them.

I have been struggling with the engine. I'm on my 3rd one and think it is on the right path. this is another Lambo V12 engine that I've glued at a 90*... Well, it's drying up a bit and not so cold. We're movin' on.

I really am working on this car! The engine has given me some design problems, but I'm confident that I'm on the right track! This was just a dry fit to see if I got it right...the rest should be gravy city. LOL!!! Patrick

The dawning of the 3 liter beasts, what a cool time to revive with this build.
That's a nice looking V12 you are putting together there, Patrick. Mr. Ginther would approve.

Cheers all!! Patrick and Connie 07-02-2017!!

had a bit of time to get the injection stacks glued on... the engine looks fairly representational IMHO... the front suspension is based on my favorite parts source...the AMT Lotus 29... the rear suspension is AMT Lotus and the rear chassis bulkhead from an IMC Lotus... the transaxel is interesting as it's an Enzo unit and has a sorta good look to it.

Hi all, Well, I came to a decision last night. I'm not going to wire the plugs and detail the engine. I'm going on 70 this year and can't concentrate on super detailing. I can't see as precisely as I used to and hate the magnifier visor. I've learned so much in my time as a modeler thanks to this group and my taking chances at building. I still have the desire to build, but not a well as I used to. Seems sad. Anyway, I put the distributor caps on and am working on the interior. The suspensions are almost ready to begin assembly onto the body. Wheels and tires are ready. Patience for a step at a time... Patrick

Amazing, as in you always seem to amaze me. You take the most basic kits and parts and build fantastic models.

Wire it and plumb it! Pushing yourself keeps your mind young, and your fingers agile! Furthermore: every time you look at the finished model, you'll see the point when you gave in. (My opinion, but you know what they say about opinions!)

Friends, I think the point of cutting back is to continue to build. When I'm gone perhaps someone will gain possession of one of my cars from this time period and say, " I could add to this!" Well, hopefully at least. Back to working on the interior.

HA! I decided to do my favorite job...that of adding the decals. It always energizes me. It is beginning to look like the real thing... Interesting that Michael's decal set in 1/24 fits almost perfectly on this slot car body from the 90's! This wouldn't look as nice without your decal set. Thanks Michael!! After reviewing all my picture references I saw details I didn't notice before. So the fire extinguisher unit, the rims were bronze, red Surtees style mirrors, ect, ect. Yes, the exhaust portion of this build will be crazy, but I have confidence that with the solder I can come close. (The Surtees Monaco 312/66 F1 is another exhaust challenge!) Patrick

Got the decals in place and decided to clean the work space. Somehow scratched the red meatball. I did get the rear suspension together... Next is the front suspension and the dreaded exhaust system... Patrick

Awesome Patrick! If anybody can handle the bundle of snakes, it's you. I love the early 3 liter cars. Would love to see a kit of the Cooper Maser.
And I missed the news: Congratulations!!
