Okay, this project is done thanks to two members of this forum. BIG TIME THANKS to Bill Little and Hugh Bolden!!! These two talented men did the decals for this car. [imghttp://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq15/OldCal/P1010073.jpg][/img] This started life as an Old Monogram Kurtis Roadster. All I did was scratch build the cockpit interior and and add new wheels and tires, which will soon be available from DrDave. I always liked Jack McGrath, one of the great "forgotten" names in 500 History. One other think....I have made many, many disparaging remarks about this ancient Monogram kit over the years. After building this one, I have found it to be actually quite accurate, when compared to Bob Clidinst'a drawings. With a few new parts...(hint to some resin casters out there...) This is a fun build and looks good. Best to you Russ

To answer your questions.... The grill was ground out from the kit nose, from the inside out and cleaned up. I took a model rail-road photo etch walk way that I bought years ago, and the pattern is similar to the grill of this car....and I cut it, and glued into place. As for the interior, I added a fire wall. The cut the transmission off the engine. I painted some frame rails red, and glued them into place and used some AMT Watson interior parts left over from my spare parts box and glued them inside. The scratch-built a dash and glued it into place alone with the kit seat and a resin seat from the spare parts box...Nothing too complicated. I I can do it, anyone can.... Best to you Russ

I I can do it, anyone can.... Best to you Russ Thank you for the inspiration, but I'm sure others will agree with me that you are truly under-estimating your talents...

As usual Russ, looks great. I love looking at your work. That Ken Paul Special in the background looks real good. What is easy for you is not so easy for some of us. I am always inspired by your work. Craig

Great work Russ! What a neat looking racer. I hope this will inspire some more Kurtis and Watson decals from this era (hint, hint...)! Sandy

Russ -
Really like the photo-etched grille. Off to the railroad store tomorrow to look for some of that stuff!

Hey guy.....
The part you're going to be looking for is, Detail Associates, HO Scale Diesel Parts number GR 27001. I bought these about 15 years ago, I hope they still make them....you may want to call first. Best of luck to you.

Hi Russ,
That looks awesome! Ol' Hugh (smokeycars) can do some artwork! I just play around with them and print them. With the age on my ALPS, I am not printing a lot of decals, especially since ALPS USA will not do anymore repair work on the MD5000.
And it sure helps if you have the knowledge you have to do the detail work! I am spending WAY MORE TIME rying to find out what the *details* are than actually building!
You skills are way higher than you let on. We all know that, but I know how us *oldtimers* believe in modesty. ;D
Keep on keeping on!

Fantastic build Russ! I have to agree with you, this is a fun kit to build. I had heard a lot of negative stuff about it, but being almost done with mine I can say it is about the most fun I have had building a model. Now that I have one done box stock, gotta try another and detail it out some.

Any word om the correct wheels for the Kurtis? I have a couple that are stalled due to the poor kit wheels. Mongo

Michael, You did the #95 for me a while ago for a Watson/Lotus-Ford.
I need the same font, (ball on the end of the #) for the #25. The size seems to be the same (3/4"x 3/4"). These numbers look to be white outlined in black.
I'm working on a model of the '53 Wolcott Spl. powered by a Chrysler hemi.
Yep, I'm converting the Monogram car to a 500A. I've switched it to a left side drive. Am now working on the nose. Anyone have any idea what color the car was? Bob Clidinst drawings are a godsend!
