Can anyone tell me about the color (body and #'s) of this car? It's Rex Mays last ride at Del Mar in 1949. I believe the car is is a KK2000 it's he the same car that Joey Chitwood drove at the 500 that year. I'm also looking for a pair of ARMS Early dish style wheels with dirt tires for the build. Dr Dave

The Fox book says it was "yellow black red". Sure doesn't look like yellow (I would have guessed red or blue) but Michael could probably tell you how yellow photographs with black and white film. You can order ARMs wheels/tires from MicroMark. The have them, I just ordered some.

Kip,
I agree, When you look at the Car at Indy with Chitwood driving I can see the car as the yellow black and red. but this is clearly a repaint sometime between May and November.
Where did you find the wheel at micromark? did you call or are they on their website?

Dear Dr. Dave and Kip, I read somewhere that it was red but I don't know for sure. Old Photos might know. I would appreciate knowing the best way to order the ARM materials from Micromark. I looked at their website yesterday and found the kits but none of the other items such as decal sheets, the grills for the Kurtis 500C, etc. Help? Thanks, Jim

Go to the Micromark website and search for American Racing Miniatures. That will get you to a list of the kits, figures, Monogram Kurtis upgrade, engines, tires/wheels, and brick & board track showcase bases. Grills, decals, paints and books??? couldn't find them.

You are right it was a Kurtis KK200 and the car was Yellow , Red & Black at Indy in 1949. Late in the Year it was painted RED, and this is the color It ran at Indy in 1950. Rex was the driver of this car at all the Races except Indy Where he drove the Novi. He put this car on the pole for 3 race in 1949

When we made the arrangement with Micro-Mark, they elected to not carry our decal sheets or paint. The Kurtis suspension upgrade upgrade sets and the photo-etch grilles were not ready at that point. Our supply of books was depleted as well, but they can be ordered through Racemaker Press www.racemakerpress.com. I have a couple sets of the dished dirt wheels/tires remaining, the Kurtis-Kraft photo-etch grilles, a couple cockpit sets, and a few other items. PM me regarding what you're looking for. I may have the item(s) in stock. www.micromark.com/SearchResult.aspx?deptIdFilter=0&searchPhrase=american+racing+miniatures
