Here's the progress on my latest build, Alex Zanardi'a 1998 CART championship-winning Reynard based off the Revell kit with Michael'a recent set of incredible decals. I've put a lot of lessons I've learned from my previous Reynards and from what I've seen guys on the board do with their builds. I cut off the front suspension, cut, glued, puttied, and sanded the seam of the front of the car. I cut off the engine cover in order to make the construction process easier from where I put the front of the car together out of sequence as compared to the instructions. I'm going to clear coat the car once I get another set of decals from Michael as I managed to dork up a couple decals in the process of putting them on the car. Michael's decals are great but I'm a klutz with decals, I'm the anti-Calvin when it comes to that part of modeling! I'm also about to place some carbon fiber decals on the car, but I'm not sure as to where they go as the front of the undertray is red. I know where the cf decals go in the back but where it actually starts on the undertray is a bit of a mystery at this point. So far, so good. The Reynards are really well engineered and go together with few problems! I'll keep you guys posted.

Looks great. Pretty sure the cars with paint underneath the radiator inlets does not go back more than a few inches. It was probably a lot like this, look around the 9 second mark. You can see white painted under the radiator opening but not very far back at all.

I've done some more work on the car and decided to put some rain tires on, I've not used them before and decided I wanted to this go 'round. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement, as I said, these Reynards are quite fun. Jordan, thank you for the video, this'll really help me get the carbon fiber just right.

I can explain the radiator inlets thing. The painting was to protect the leading edge(s) and prevent degradation to the carbon fiber from debris and sandblasting effects. So, things like that would be colored to protect the carbon. There was another popular application at the time, which was using a high end aircraft clearcoat, the name of which I cannot remember, on bare carbon, to prevent the same and contamination from oil or other chemicals. Once impregnated with oil, the carbon began to break down and lose integrity. It was also viewed in some circles as being aerodynamically superior on the undertray for airflow through the tunnels. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the information SWT500! The remaining decals are on and now I shall clear coat the car. Once that's complete I'll apply carbon fiber decals and begin assembling the suspension.
My construction's been unconventional so far, but I think to get the car as accurate as I want it'll pay off in the end!

I've finished the carbon fiber decaling on the car, it's tedious but it looks great once completed. Now on to the suspension and detail painting.

Boy that does look great, but that would drive me crazy. No chance I'd try that.
