On the bench now is this conversion. I was going to wait until November for the all new Honda from Greenlight but I want to start on it and can't wait. Who knows if it will be on time anyway. Coming soon to a theater near you!

Good subject Stu, cannot wait to see it coming together. Starting with an original DW12 donor?

Thanks guys. Yes, Jordan. Starting with the original DW12 and using one of Chris's 2015 3D printed rear bumpers. It will have to be modified because this years is different than last years.

Mock up of my Texas Winner base. Little Al car placed on the base for scale. Sorry that pics are a little blurry.

Stu,
Where did you get the cool display . Where or how did you get the partial Texas wall backing?
Thanks, Robby

Stu, Where did you get the cool display . Where or how did you get the partial Texas wall backing? Thanks, Robby I designed it on the computer and printed it out on 11 X 17 paper. Used spray glue to stick it to foam board and then sealed it with matte clear. The base is also foam board that I painted. Start/Finish line was also printed on my computer. The track is inclined so the two boards will be glued together with support underneath when it is all finished.

Did some fuel buck detail and covered the seat with felt and added seat belts and hardware.

I wish you guys could work for the die cast companies. I know it would raise the price of the die-cast and what would we do for fun. Thise look great and the real deal.

I would do this all day long if it paid the bills. Just can't build them fast enough.

After getting side tracked with other builds I am back on this build. Here is the goal. Using Bare metal foil for the chrome silver on this car. More to follow!

Doing some detail work while I wait for the decals. Bare Metal foil to me is the way to go verses paint. You can clear coat bare metal foil with no adverse effects. I have had silver paint turn grey after clear coating over it.

Looking great Stu. Always wanted to use BMF on a car but been hesitant you're making it look doable. Are you using the black as a base for the red. Red looks fairly dark. Which is spot on for the Rahal car. Keep up the great work sir.

Which is spot on for the Rahal car. Keep up the great work sir. Actually this is one of the rare occasions that I used grey primer. I almost always (99%) of the time use white primer. I still have a piece of wrap from the car and did a test and red over white was too bright while red over grey was pretty much spot on. Primed the car and painted the red first. Masked and then painted the black. Bare Metal Foil was added last of course. I love Bare Metal Foil. Super straight lines and very thin. Even if you make a small mistake you can usually still burnish it down with a Q-Tip or toothpick. You can clear over it with out fear of it turning colors. Your paint has to be pretty close to perfect or the Bare Metal foil will pick it up for sure. Decals should be ready soon and I will update the WIP once I get them. Thanks!

Very nice, Stu. The decals and build compliment each other. So does the red LED number get added later? It was weird to see 83 on the LED panel until I realized it probably was not done - lol
I like the celebrating Graham, too, it looks great - cannot wait to see it progressing.

Are you going to use day-glo vinyl/decal for the "1" on the LED board to simulate the brightness of the LEDS? Looking amazing, I need to get to doing one of these Hondas eventually!

Jordan Actually the 1 is in the digital display on Michael's decals. It's colored red that got lost in the black background making it look like #83. But, I am going to add a day-glo decal there later on. Also, if you look at the above photos you will notice the rear wing is the Indy 500 type rear wing. I picked-it up and was going to start detailing it when I dropped it and it chipped the paint. Then I realized "Wait a second!" The Texas rear wing is totally different so I am using a rear wing from an older DW12. Good thing I dropped it and didn't waste all that time detailing it!

Thanks Guys. While looking at photos of the real car I noticed some details that I don't normally add to my cars. The photo below shows the rear wing adjuster and a (+ -) decal with an upside down arrow. I decided, why not try to try to duplicate it the best I could. I covered the wing support in carbon fiber decal and then made a wing adjuster out of aluminum tubing and a piece of guitar string. I first tried to find a screw the right diameter but decide the guitar string was the right size and gave the look of something with threads on it. I added photoetch bolt heads to the ends and made the adjuster decal on my inkjet and this is the final result.
