I’ve never been that interested in the pre-war Grand Prix cars and especially the Auto Union cars. Maybe it was the grainy black and white photos or not doing my homework on the cars, but that changed with the Christes Paris auction of 2007. If you saw the TV special, you remember being introduced to Wayne Carini for the first time. There was quite a controversy about the history of the car, a Type D, and they pulled it from the auction until the chassis number question could be resolved. By the time it went up for sale again at Pebble Beach, Wayne Carini was there again but this time with his own show, Chasing Classic Cars. I just re-watched that episode a couple of weeks ago and decided that I had to have an Auto Union model (or two) in my collection. I knew of the Fernando Pinto 1/24th scale kit and the 1/20th scale Revival Type C kit, but I did not remember the old Matchbox/Revell 1/32nd scale Type D model. At the same time I was doing my research online and also pulling out my old Road & Track magazines. Besides a great article on the history of Auto Union, I also found two wonderful road tests by my first hero of auto racing, Phil Hill. On line, I discovered the “dullie” hill climb car. I had never seen it before and decided that I had to have a model of it. So I present here the results of my shopping. The Revival 1/20th scale Type C hill climb car, the Revell 1/32nd scale Type D and the excellent book by Ian Bamsey. Paul Erlendson

Christmas arrived late today as the mail from Portugal isn’t real fast in the time of Covid. Too back up, soon after I started this thread I started talking with Fernando Pinto about the disappointing wheels in Revival kits. Especially the Type C Auto Union. Fernando started to get interested in possibly doing something and photos and measurements started traveling across the Atlantic. Today Fernando’s wheels/tires for the Revival Auto Union kit arrived in my mail box, and they look fantastic. They are certainly going to add to my enjoyment of working on this kit in hopefully the near future. We seem to have a lot of Auto Union interest flowing around the site of late. I thought I would share this news now to just add another log on the fire so to speak. Paul Erlendson

I have the same Revival Tipo C dually. So I am really looking forward in seeing what you do with it. I really like the F.Pinto wheels you purchased as they will look much better than the kit wheels.
Have you built any Revivals in the past? So far I've built three Revivals; two Ferraris and one Mercedes. I can tell you that some of the models are better than others. Two of the three I built required complete repaints because of blistering under the paint. Have you files, dremel, sand paper, and polishing cloth/sticks ready; can't forget the fiddly little screwdriver either. Personally I like the detail in metal, the challenge in the build, etc.
Regardless, I will watching your build with great interest. You sure have started it right with hose wheels. I'm sure you will knock it out of the park.
