I've just started on my first Ampersand Model (Mears 84 March) and I have to say that these kits are awesome. If you have never built one before, you should order one. Again, they go together nice and they are a joy to build after the MA kits I have been buying,

The Ampersand kits are well thought out with nice castings. Other than adding modern seat belts, I don't do much more in my build process with them. While mostly being made pre-1990, they still hold up nicely.
If I'm allowed to be honest talking about this in public. When I approach an MA kits build, it usually has me drinking more than I should. While it's great he makes so many US racing cars, I usually find myself sorting out what I need to remake, and have me sorting out what aftermarket parts I should/can buy to correct or enhance to modern standards. He's been doing this long enough, there really is no reason for him not improving his craft and what you see when you open the box. At least give us a cleaner castings and adopt some modern practices. So many of his parts are templates to what to remake. Since he makes built versions too, what would it really cost him in the long run. If I didn't need 6 months recovery after building his kits, I might actually buy more of them. I've already got 10 years of kit building in my stash. Give me a reason to increase that.
I'm really not trying to be harsh. I've been criticized before about commenting on his kits on other forums. Here I go again. It's just my experience of building them, and how I feel about purchasing more. And I would purchase more. But I'm still in recovery period where I won't let myself order more. And there are more I would order. Great subjects. So many subjects. His IMSA Gebhardt Momo kit was a fine copy that didn't really need much extra work with castings that were quite nice. I've probably said more than I should. I stop now.

Yep csl, thats an accurate description. So many great US racing subjects, but brutal to build.
