A question for the group .. As you know I've been building a model of Ole Calhoun. I'm trying to build is a close as to what it would have been like in 1963 instead of the current restored version of the car. My question surrounds the Knock-offs on the wheels. I've seen some period pictures of where the recesses of the knock off were painted red (or had reminents of red paint in them) so I painted all the recesses on my knock offs with red.. Well a good friend of my mentioned that there is a possibity that only 2 of the knock-offs would have red and the other 2 might have blue for what we think would be to distinguish between right and left threaded spindles.. I know it seems trivial but I've spent 2 years on this build and I want to make sure I'm doing it right (and to ease my OCD! LOL!) Would there have been 2 different colors??? If so what colors would they have been and what side would they have been on? Any suggestions are welcome.. BTW here is one front wheel which I just finished with the red painted knock off recesses (so you can see what I am talking about) And a scratch built center spindle out of a pop rivet stem and collar made out piece of aluminum tube..Looks more realistic than the kit spindle

I believe the right side was unpainted. I've seen a very good day after pic in black and white that clearly shows the front knock off and it is definitely unpainted. The rear is not so clear.
