It's my understanding that Boston wanted a guarantee that it would not be liable for any cost incurred in putting on Boston Grand Prix, so plans for the race have been scrapped! Costs of permits for construction in a flood plane also figured into the decision to cancel.
Sad to hear this. Yes, it's expensive to stage a race, but so much money comes into the area when a race is run, and I should think the track layout could have been modified to avoid the flood plane.
In the back of mind is a thought: what if the race had been for NASCAR (not necessarily a street race) in the area?
