Since I was on a mission to get anything I owned that needed a Coyote Orange paint job DONE! with that stubborn can of Mustang Poppy Red/orange I have, I decided to get this one painted as well and over with. Plus it matches the decals just right. If the paint doesn't match the decals then what good does the color debate do? It looks good to me so, end of story. I got this kit from ARM last year...its a beautiful kit! Kenny Used a different type of head support, so I sculpted one out of apoxie sculpt and inserted it in there. Then I painted the body Tamiya Pearl White, then days later got that silly coyote orange on there that always gets my nerves up. It kinda was thick and bled through the masking lines but I'll just clean it up without any issues. I'll let this coyote orange sit for a very long time and decide what to do later....

I just love these "what was the color" threads. To add to the muddle, I think that this car might have been a pearlscent pearl like what Foyt used on his 1964 winner. While Dean Jefferies wasn't around to stripe it, he may have used this throwback color. Just my two cents. I was working for the IRL in Timing & Scoring at the time so I did get to see the car up close. Good luck with whatever works. Jim

Yes, the Power Team cars were pearlescent.

It doesn't show up in the picture as it was too dark but I did use Tamiya Pearl white.

Just out of curiousity (and slightly off topic): what exactly is Power Team? I've never come across the name or logo in any other context than on the sidepods of Kenny's winning machine, so is it an actual product or company?

They did some NASCAR sponsorship, too, around the same time. Looks like an energy company. Jordan

Great start. What's the collar in the cockpit opening? Jordan Most everyone had one of those big ones but Kenny had a smaller one that was just made out of felt that looks similar to what I sculpted out (of course I still need to paint it flat black.)

My favorite part is done, decaling....there is nothing that I like to do more than decaling, I love decaling. I could decal, all night and all day. If there is a model that needs a decal job, I hurry and decal it!

How's the color match to the decals? It looks really good with the decals on.

How's the color match to the decals? It looks really good with the decals on. Jordan Its close. The paint is slightly darker, but when everything is on the car, its not even noticeable.....you gotta realize I went to the MP2/Indycals color university and have a AAAS degree in color matching.....and taught by one of the world renown color experts, professor Portaro. So I can see color differences more so than the average person.

Nice work, Calvin. You did a great job on it. Seems like lightning bolts were really fast in the late 90s. lol

Let me think....the only winners that had lightning bolts are the 1970, 1971, 1999, and 2000 cars..... just one more and I have all the lightning bolt winners!!!

Just out of curiousity (and slightly off topic): what exactly is Power Team? I've never come across the name or logo in any other context than on the sidepods of Kenny's winning machine, so is it an actual product or company? Bo In my research for my upcoming build of this car in 1:18 die cast, I came across an ad in the 1999 Indy 500 program. It was for the Power Team Indy Racing Team. across the bottom of the ad is this quote. "Not only is Power Team a leader in motorsports, but is also the leading real-time energy supplier in the United States. In 1998, Power Team sold more than 70 billion KWhs. Located outside Philadelphia, Power Team operates a 24-hour trading floor." So I guess they are a middle-man in the energy world. Calvin, this is a stunning build and I plan on using your pics for reference! Great job, looks fantastic.

Relative to the 1999 Kenny Brack replica car, I must admit ... this is outstanding work. I believe Loran was the builder. As one of the six guys (fueler) that serviced this car during the entire 1999 IRL season, I can assure you the details are very precise. I only wish these replicas were more readily available.
Just curious, what are the dimensions of this car in inches?
Thanks.
